I bet most of you think deserts are just really hot, sandy places. Nope.
The Great Basin Desert is considered a desert because it averages less than 10 inches of rain a year. It is a cold desert, and because its elevated, it gets most of its moisture during winter snowfall. Despite the dry conditions, more than 800 species of plants live there.
