Books We Love
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Theif by Rick Riordan
The Lightning Thief is the first book in a series and even the beginning to a spin-off series called The Heroes Of Olympus.
Percy is just a troubled kid, getting kicked out of school after school. But what grabbed me was when Percy's world is turned upside down, when Rick Riordan combines the world as we know it with the Greek gods and myths. After finding out the truth about himself and his unknown godly father and witnessing his mother turned to gold dust by a Greek monster, Percy finds himself at Camp Half-Blood, where he finds other children like him. But things take a turn for the worst when Poseidon claims him as his son and he is accused of being the lightning thief. Percy, Annabeth, and Grover have to travel into the underworld to try to save Percy's mother from Hades. As the three grow closer and stronger, I grew with them. Even my heart raced along side theirs as they fight against monsters and gods.Even as all seems well in the world and Percy's name is cleared, Riordan makes a huge reveal that continues to shape Percy, the future, along with the rest of the world.
I really loved this book because it shows how anyone, even an 11 year old boy, can change or even save the world and make his own way, his own destiny. Everything about Percy makes him lovable. For one thing he is not perfect, just like me. He has power that he uses wisely, strength to always do what is right no matter what, he is just is a natural born leader that is trustworthy, strong, and smart.
I have read this book and the whole series over and over again. But no matter how many times I do, it is just never as good as I remembered it. And I will always remember how my stomach twists as the plot does, the late, sleepless nights I spent to just get to the end of one more chapter, how I fell in love with all of the characters ,and I remember all of the other memories and emotions that tie me to this amazing book and will keep me reading it over and over again.
