This Week in AVID
Socratic Seminar is an engaging way to develop a deeper understanding of complex ideas through meaningful dialogue. It is scaffolded through academic language scripts. We are using the Constructing Meaning Discussion Cards, which illustrates how well AVID and CM compliment each other. Here is the elementary version of Socratic Seminar to get you started which can also be used in secondary classrooms.

The Fun Run Fundraiser has Begun! - Our Fun Run kicks off on Tuesday with the Fun Run Pep Rally at 10:05 (all students). Please be sure to wear your Fun Run t-shirts. Extra sizes are in the PFC office space (next to the staff lounge) if you need to exchange yours for a different size. If you haven't already, please set up your Teacher Dashboard (only 8 more classrooms to go!).
On Tuesday, we will be placing cardboard boxes in front of each classroom. This is where we will be placing the daily prizes and class report. This class report will include who to hand out the prizes to and what your class pledge tally is. Please hand the prizes out that day, as this gets kids excited about the Fun Run.
Wednesday will be the kick off to the character videos. You can find the first video and the full list via the links below:
Team Day 1 - Honesty vs Dishonesty
Looking for Class Talent - The PFC is looking forward to hosting our Talent Show (date TBD)! Signing up and doing a solo act can be daunting. We we want to encourage as many group acts as possible. Our coordinator, Sierra Kulak, is hoping with more time teachers may be able to use PE time or music class time to put together an act representing a grade or class - consider connecting it to a theme in your curriculum. And of course, we encourage more staff members to perform this year as a treat for our students and families.
