Principal's Corner

Dear Families,

What a wonderful start to our school year! Our building was filled with learning and smiles. Thank you for helping to make arrival and dismissal run smoothly. Please remember to create plans in pick-up patrol for your child's typical transportation and edit those plan changes throughout the year.

If you have not gotten the powerschool paperwork completed to update information please do so ASAP. It is vital that we have the most current contact and health information for your student.

Mark your calendars for our Open House on September 20th from 5:30-6:30.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten is off to a great start. We are an active bunch and spend most of our day on the go. We spent this week learning about how to be in school and follow the rules. We have already read a bunch of fantastic, fun books to start our year. We have read The Night before Kindergarten, Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten, The King of Kindergarten, The Queen of Kindergarten, and Kindergarten: Where Kindness Matters Every Day.

1st Grade

It has been a wonderful start to the school year in first grade! The first graders were excited to be back together after a summer away from school. This week we learned about expectations for walking in the hallway, playing on the playground and lining up to leave the classroom. We enjoyed several read alouds about going back to school, including a silly story called, Dog Days of School. Ask your first grader what happens to the main character when he wishes he didn't have to go to school anymore. I am looking forward to an exciting week of learning with these first graders.

2nd Grade

In 2nd grade this week, we have been getting to know each other. We have completed self portraits and named how we were feeling the first day of school. The students have also been thinking about their strengths. From this they have created an advertisement for some of those strengths.

3rd Grade

What a great start to 3rd grade! We have spent the last few days beginning to develop our classroom community and getting to know each other! Today we started thinking about our hopes and goals for this year and next week will work together to establish some classroom expectations that will help us achieve our goals!

Have a restful long weekend!

4th Grade

Our 4th grade class is off to a great start! We have been getting to know each other, establishing classroom expectations and exploring what it means to be a kind, safe and responsible community member. Students have settled into our classroom setting, explored the library, and discovered that we have lots of readers!! There are also some budding scientists this year in 4th grade. We welcomed a small temporary friend into our classroom, a caterpillar, who will soon transform into a monarch butterfly. We as a class will tag the butterfly and set it free to migrate all the way to Mexico! There is lots to do, and tons of fun to be had this year!

An Introduction

Hello GES Families,

I am very lucky to share this new and exciting school year with you!

My name is Kathie Morrocco and I am ConVal’s Title I Project Manager and reading specialist for the elementary schools. This year, I am lucky enough to join the staff at Greenfield Elementary to support our students in learning the skills of reading. It is such a joy to work with children to empower them and provide the essentials they need to become a successful reader!

To share a little bit of my background with you, I have earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education as well as my Post-Baccalaureate Certification as a reading and writing specialist. My role as a Title I manager allows me to work with teachers and administrators across our district to ensure all schools that receive Title I federal funding thrive from its resources. And on a personal note, I feel like I am back home again. I started my teaching journey as a kindergarten teacher here at GES, and returning this year absolutely warms my heart!

Please know we are here to partner with you, our families, to provide your child with the needed support including a multitude of resources and information for you to help your child at home. Our hope is to continue to grow and deepen our home-school partnership together, which of course is our most precious resource. Thank you for your support of all of our GES students!

Take good care,

Katherine Morrocco
