Mrs. Joanna Shostachuk, School Principal

A Note from Mrs. Shostachuk 10/10/2021

Dear Central Road Families:

We had another wonderful week of learning at Central Road! Both our students and staff did an amazing and safe job practicing our lockdown drill this week. Our bus evacuation drill has been postponed to a later time. We hope you find the long weekend to be relaxing and time well spent with family and friends! We will be very excited to welcome students back on Wednesday, October 13th as there is no school on October 11th and 12th. Thank you for taking a moment to read our weekly parent communication as we continue to honor a strong home-school connection. As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.

Kindest Regards,

Joanna Shostachuk

Parent-Teacher Conferences-Nov. 22 & 23

We hope all parents have had an opportunity to sign up for P/T conferences. Please contact your child's teacher if you still require an appointment date/time. We will be holding conferences in person at school with a virtual option if preferred/needed for parents/guardians. Our conferences will take place on Monday, November 22nd from 12:00-8:00 pm and Tuesday, November 23rd from 8:00-12:00 pm. Each conference will be about 20 minutes. Our teachers very much look forward to connecting with families on student progress and growth. We hope you find the time together productive and meaningful.

Lunch & Recess Update

Upon returning on October 13th, students will have more flexibility when playing outdoors during recess with the elimination of classroom zones outside. We too have recess bins for each classroom to engage with basic equipment. Our basketball hoops are up and our students have been excited to play basketball again! As the weather begins to change, please send your child to school with a light jacket. We will continue to go out for recess each day to enjoy the fresh air and physical movement!

We too have worked on adjusting some of our seating arrangements during lunch/eating time to allow for more social distancing. We have been able to make many adjustments for students to be sitting closer to 6 feet apart.

Erin's Law

Annually, we provide all students from grades Pre-K through 6th with age-appropriate personal safety awareness and prevention education. In order to comply with the requirement to provide developmentally sensitive and appropriate training for students, lessons have been carefully developed. Classroom teachers will be addressing the topic(s) in class in the coming weeks/month and will share their timeline(s) with parents prior to the implementation of these lesson(s). The presentation(s) to students are designed to be presented by classroom teachers as a part of the school’s Social Emotional Learning lessons, health class, or human growth and development instruction. The lessons are taught to each classroom by their classroom teacher. Each lesson consists of a 30-45 minute PowerPoint presentation. Below you are able to review additional information.

Parent Volunteer-Parent Partners District Committee

We are still seeking a parent volunteer to represent Central Road School. This volunteer would be our Parent Partners Representative and would attend meetings on the following dates/times at our district office in Palatine.

Tuesdays, 1:00-2:30p, ESC, Room 121 - October 19, December 14, March 1, May 3.

If you are interested, please feel free to contact Mrs. Shostachuk

Thank you for your consideration!

Teachers in general love this time of year. Central Road teachers and staff members take the prospect of beginning a new year to a whole new level. They prepare their classrooms, plan lessons, organize schedules, review student records, and think about all of the possibilities the year ahead holds. As much as we recognize their efforts and successes here at school, nothing means more to a teacher or staff member than a kind word from a student or his/her family. As we get the year underway, I invite you to take notice of the things you see your child's teacher do, hear your child's teacher say, or the things you hear your child gush with excitement about related to their teacher. We've included this simple form for you to submit should you feel so inclined to do so. Children in full day school spend more of their waking day with their teacher than they do with their parents. We thank you for entrusting your child with us! This is going to be a great school year.

Shield Testing Update

We continue to Shield Test students in grades 1-6 on Fridays. Morning KDG/ECDEC classrooms began on Friday, October 8th. Afternoon ECDEC and afternoon KDG classrooms began Shield testing on Tuesday, October 5th. Shield testing is conducted quickly, efficiently and with safety. Results will be available within 24- 48 hours. We contact the parents/guardians of any student who may receive a positive test result ONLY. This information is confidential. If you would like to opt-out/in of Shield Testing, please e-mail Ms. Latham at or Ms. Flor to note your adjustment.

Students continue to sit 3 feet away from peers masked while learning indoors. Mask wearing outdoors continues to remain optional for students and staff. We have recently adjusted our indoor eating/seating arrangements as best as possible to ensure students are closer to 6 feet apart when eating.

Return to school with COVID-like symptoms (with no known exposure)

  • If a person has a COVID symptom and goes home, in order for them to come back, we have to have a negative PCR COVID test and fever-free for 24 hours.
  • If they have vomiting or diarhea, they need to be symptom free for 48 hours and have a negative PCR COVID test to return.
  • If they have any other COVID symptom, they need to have a negative test to return.
  • If they decide not to get a test after a symptom was identified, they can return after 10 days.

Health Requirements due by October 15th

Our deadline is fast approaching! All six grade students, kindergarten, preschool students and any new students at Central Road School are required to meet health examination and immunization requirements. Students not in compliance will be subject to exclusion on October 15th from school until Illinois stated requirements are met. If needed, please contact your child's pediatrican to schedule an exam appointment. We appreciate you doing so if needed.

If you have any questions regarding your child's health, you may reach me at or at 847-963-5102. We will work together to ensure all guidelines are followed and clearly understood while keeping our students all safe and healthy!

Thank you for your patience.

October Message from Mrs. Kathy Nordin

Now that we have been back for a while, there are several things we should to go over. Mrs. Shostachuk has already done a wonderful job trying to improve the parking lot situation. Things are improving but it takes everyone to make it work. Please cooperate with the staff and use of the parking poles. Be aware that only a certain number of cars can enter the lot at dismissal. It is not necessary to leave a lot of space between vehicles. Read the sign for how far vehicles can be in the driveway and please do not block that crosswalk. There's a sign for that, as well. And I know I am repeating myself, but BUSES HAVE PRIORITY! They must be allowed to enter without obstruction. So anyone who cannot get there in time to be in the lot, please park on either side of Central Road, east of the school and wait for the traffic in the lot to start moving before you proceed.

Also, I am noticing is when cars are exiting the parking lot, be it morning or afternoon, most vehicles are not stopping and not looking to see if there is oncoming traffic. Some are not even slowing down, just proceeding onto Central Road. There have been several near misses. There is a STOP sign there and it must be adhered to. Please remember the “NO LEFT TURN” times. There's a sign for that, as well. PLEASE do not cross in the middle of Central Road with your children. It is so incredibly dangerous with the way cars drive in that area. I am there for a reason, to keep your children safe and to teach them the proper way to cross a street. As always, thank you to those who take the time to read this and also abide by the advice. Also, please remember share with those who do not. Thank you for your support.
