WE DID IT!
Deal Albert Schweitzer students and families,
As this school year comes to a close, we are reminded of all that we've accomplished during this difficult and challenging year. March 13th of last year our schools closed, and we were faced with many uncertainties and challenges related to how we would continue to help our students learn and thrive in their world. This year's theme for 4th grade was 'Strength & Endurance.' I want to congratulate our Schweitzer staff and students to having that endurance to meet all of the challenges we were faced with and for working through a year with many added health and safety precautions as well as new expectations for learning. Students and staff learned quickly how to work on Canvas and became Zoom experts. Teachers were asked to go above and beyond in balancing students in person and online, and they should be commended for their efforts in supporting our students each day.
Please take advantage of the many summer learning opportunities that are available to our students. Students will be keeping their Chromebooks to take advantage of the many opportunities available within Canvas for continued practice on i-Ready. Also be sure to help your child participate in our Summer Reading Challenge.
Many thanks to our Albert Schweitzer PTO for their continued support and fundraising efforts. Through their hard work, we have been able to continue with Phase 2 of our Playground. The plan is to have a 'Merry Go All' installed over the summer months to add to our fun at recess. Our PTO also purchased Spirit Day T-Shirts for all students and staff, treated teachers to breakfast and treats, and purchased gifts for the 4th grade graduating class. Thank you for continuing to build the pride of our Schweitzer community and supporting our school. Your support is always valued and appreciated!
Be sure to take time to rejuvenate and get outside this summer with your family. Hopefully you will get the opportunity to travel and do something fun with your family and friends to help resume that sense of connectedness that many of us have been missing these past 15 months.
Have a safe and relaxing summer,
Dr. Amy Orlando
Principal
Important: Summer Learning Opportunities for Elementary Students
As we plan for the end of the school year, we are finalizing plans for Summer Learning Opportunities for all Elementary Students. It is important to encourage children to engage in both reading and math activities throughout the summer to reduce the summer slide.
Summer slide or Summer learning loss is the loss of academic skills and knowledge over the course of lengthy summer break. To ensure students are engaged in learning during the summer break, the following activities and incentives have been planned for all elementary students.
Summer Learning with i-Ready:
This unpredictable school year has made student summer learning needs complex. In order to address individual learning needs, Neshaminy has extended our i-Ready access into the summer. Using i-Ready My Path students will be provided with personalized instruction throughout the summer. All students can continue to access I-Ready using Clever throughout the Summer.
As a District, we are encouraging students to complete reading and math lessons on their individual i-Ready My Path throughout the summer. Students are encouraged to spend thirty minutes a week in both Reading and Math with a goal of completing 10 lessons in each area. A My Path Tracker is included in the newsletter for children to use throughout the summer.
Every student that participates in i-Ready lessons this summer will be entered into a grade level raffle when they return in September as well as receive an i-Ready pencil and sticker.
For any family that would prefer access to printable packets this summer, grade level Math activity packets and Reading Bingo Boards are included in our Summer Newsletter included at the end of this letter for access throughout the summer.
Summer Reading:
In addition, this year Neshaminy continues to make the Elementary Summer Reading lists accessible through the Sora app. With Sora, you can get free eBooks and audio books to enjoy at home over the summer. Students can access Sora and the Reading Lists using the Clever and the 2021 Canvas SummerReading Course. All students will receive an invitation to the Summer Reading Canvas Course during the last week of school.
Please use the link below to access Neshaminy’s Elementary Summer Newsletter which includes access to the i-Ready My Path Tracker, printables, and a few additional activities. The Summer Learning Opportunities outlined above as well as in the newsletter will provide our elementary students with a variety of reading and math activities to close the gaps as well as challenge them in preparation of the upcoming school year.
4th Grade Move-Up Ceremony
On Friday, June 11th, our 4th Grade Albert Schweitzer graduates were honored for their perseverance and endurance in completing elementary school! They will be off to middle school next year, and we will miss them dearly! Every student received a graduation certificate, and individual and group awards are presented below. A link to a Move-Up video will be provided to students and families by the end of the week.

First Graders Take a Virtual Field Trip to the Zoo!
This week Miss Flynn’s class went on a virtual Field Trip to the Zoo. Each student was responsible for creating a video about an animal that they researched. After completing the research, students used We Video to create their video. Each video consisted of a title screen, an introduction through the use of a green screen, several videos of their animal and a google slide that included fun facts about their animal. Students learned to record videos using a green screen, import images, add videos as well as add audio and narration. Once all of the videos were complete, the whole class wore their special zoo t-shirts while they enjoyed viewing each other’s videos. A special thank you to Katrina Hunt, our instructional learning coach, for helping the class record their introductions.
