Congratulations to the following students who were nominated by teachers as Model Mavericks for the month of November.
Azan Ahmed was nominated by Mrs. Burfield because Azan always comes to class with a positive attitude and ready to make everyone laugh around him. He always tries his best and participates in class voluntarily!
Harper Dawe was nominated by Ms. Calvillo because Harper is responsible, respectful, and kind to others. She always has a great attitude and does her best each day. Way to go, Harper!
Sophia Williams was nominated by Mrs. Clausen because Sophia always has a positive attitude and does her best on all of her work. She comes to class ready for a challenge and is willing to participate in class discussions.
David Vasquez was nominated by Mr. Erickson because David is the definition of a Model Maverick. He is awesome in the classroom, has great relationships with peers and staff, and is always engaged.
Gabi Tenney, Elizabeth Boecker, Annabelle Williams, and Goda Didjurgis were nominated by Mrs. Liskunas because this group of office runners is always ready and eager to help with what is put in front of them. They are courteous to all those around them. I love seeing their smiling faces on a daily basis. Thanks for being Model Mavericks, girls!
AVID Instructional Strategies
Mr. Kiefert( ELA)- Gallery Walk: Had students rate the work of other students on the "Outsider one Pager".
Mrs. Hauert( Science)- 6th grade students discussed different models to physically represent upcoming experiments. We thought about the ways in which light waves can warm up our closed cup system, and discussed ways to test our theories.
Mrs. Miller( Science)- Students worked together to construct a Mayflower ship out of foil that would hold as many Pilgrims (pennies) as possible.
Mrs. Lester(Spanish)- This was a free write in which students were given a word bank of verbs they could use in their story.
Mrs. Lester(Spanish)- To review Spanish infinitives, students played Quizlet Live in teams. The first team to get 12 consecutive answers correct was the winner of the round. The team members have to collaborate because only one member of each team has the correct answer to each question.
Toys For Tots
We're coming to the end of the Toys 4 Tots collection! It will run through December 8th!
Murphy Junior High will be collecting NEW toys to donate to families in the community who are currently having financial difficulties. Gifts should be $10 and up, unwrapped and can be for children of all ages. Donated gifts should be something similar to what you would like to receive for the holiday so please keep that in mind! Here's how to win!!! First and foremost, you need to donate NEW GIFTS that are priced $10 and up! Students should bring all the toys to their homeroom rep in exchange for a raffle ticket. On December 8th, 15 lucky winners will have the chance to serve as Murphy’s "elves for the day" WITH A FRIEND OF CHOICE. These elves will attend this year’s Toys for Tots Pizza Party and will help load up Murphy's toys with the Oswego Fire Department as well as have their picture taken with the local fire department, which will then be submitted to the local newspaper. This special event will take place on Friday, December 10th during the first half of the school day.
Help Murphy spread cheer over the holiday season and pick up your toy today! The more you donate the better chance you have to participate in this special event!!
They are looking for volunteers to help sort and deliver toys and food on Saturday, December 11th. Here is the sign-up link. Thanks for your help!

The MAVERICK Market
The Maverick Market, our school store, is opening soon! Our AVID students are working diligently to prepare for the grand opening! The store gives all students opportunities to cash in their Bullseyes that are earned for making good choices throughout the week. However, we need your help!
We are respectfully asking for donations for the following items:
Individually wrapped small sized candy (jolly ranchers, lifesavers, mints, etc.)
Gift cards in smaller dollar amounts ($5, $10, $15) to places like: McDonalds, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Five Below, etc.)
Small fidgets (stress balls, rubix cube, or other sensory items)
Other items you feel would entice our diverse student population to continue to employ strong character within our school and community.
Disclaimer: At this time snack items and gum should not be donated.
We thank you in advance for your generosity in regards to stocking The Maverick Market! We cannot wait to see your student there!
Temporary Distance Learning and Absences
Temporary Distance Learning and Absences
Remember, Temporary Distance Learning is not available for students who are absent from school for various reasons. Temporary Distance Learning only applies to students who are excluded by the school/district. If your child is absent from school, he/she/they still have access to Google Classroom to obtain assignments, however, they are not able to log into the Google Meet for live instruction. Please also remember that TDL may take 24 hours to be set up.
Exclusion Process
If your child is sent home from school for COVID-19 symptoms, or, you choose to keep your child home from school due to COVID-19 symptoms and contact the office to report the absences and symptoms, you will receive a letter from the nurse/school with exclusion procedures and the information on Temporary Distance Learning. If your child is sent home from school for COVID symptoms, Temporary Distance Learning will be able to be accessed the next school day. Students are not able to return to school until the information on the letter from the nurse/school has been addressed (either a negative COVID test or continuing with the exclusion in it's entirety and participating in TDL). If your child receives a negative COVID test and is coming back prior to the end date of the district/school issued exclusion, your child will need to report to the Main Office or Health Office to receive an orange pass that allows them to return to their classes early. This orange pass will need to be carried through the day to show each of their teachers.
If your child is following through with the exclusion for the entire period of time listed in the letter sent by the nurse/school, they are able to participate in Temporary Distance Learning each day. If your child in exclusion will NOT be attending TDL, please contact the attendance line to report their absence.

Winter is Coming!!... Attention students: Please be sure to keep your hats, gloves, coats, boots etc. in your locker for the day. Only necessary items should be brought to class.
Do You Have Pets?... If you have pets that you walk around the Murphy fields, please be sure to clean up after them so our PE classes and other classes can continue to come outside and practice/play/sit on our fields that are "clean". Thank you for your cooperation.
Are You Missing Anything?... We have a couple tables set up outside Student Services with items from the Lost and Found. Please take a look to see if you're missing anything! We have glasses that need to find their owners by Mrs. Cooper's desk.
