Walk to School Wednesday
This Wednesday, Ruggles Lane will join schools across the country and around the world to participate in International Walk to School Day. This global event began in 1997 and was meant to be a one-day event to encourage school children to walk safe routes to school. Seventeen years later, this movement to encourage healthy habits continues.
If you and/or your child(ren) would like to join Mrs. Piermarini, Mrs. Franklin and me, please join us at the Common at 7:50 for a 7:55 departure. If you can not join us and your child would like to walk, you can drop him/her off as long as you check in with a school staff member so we are aware he/she is with us. We will talk about the rules of walking (two by two, on the sidewalk only, walking pace) and then get started! Starting the day off with a quick burst of exercise is a great way to prepare the brain for a day of learning!
In the event of rain, an email will be sent out at 7:30 canceling the walk and we will reschedule for Thursday, October 9th. If you can not join us this month, no need to worry! We will start "Walking Wednesdays" on the first Wednesday of each month. Our next "Walking Wednesday" will take place on November 5th.
I look forward to walking with many of you Wednesday :)
Currently the following topics will be discussed:
- Fundations with Mrs. Cranston and Mrs. Ellis (K-2)
- Reader's Workshop with Mrs. Franklin and Mrs. Josephson (K-6)
- Writer's Workshop with Ms. Barringer and Mrs. Clark (K-6)
- Math Workshop with TBD (K-6)
- WINN=What I Need Now with Ms. Vincentsen (New reinforcement/extension block for 2014-2015 school year)
We may be adding session options as we get closer to the event. Stay tuned for updates in next week's Barre Blast.
We've got spirit yes we do, we've got spirit how about you?

Thank you to Mrs. Franklin for organizing our celebration of Constitution Day which is celebrated every year on September 17th. Stop by the Liberty Tree to see class responses about the importance of freedom!
Each class read the Liberty Tree story and wrote about why freedom is important. My personal favorite is kindergartners who wrote, "We have the right to dance!" Out of the mouths of babes right?
