The Creighton Community
Edition 9, April 2020
Welcome to the Creighton Community Newsletter
Heroes On The Front Line
The Child Nutrition and Wellness staff have been working every day to prepare an average of 5,000 meals a day to feed our community breakfast and lunch at all nine of our schools + mobile meals at bus stops. They greet our community offering a friendly face even when things can feel uncertain and stressful. Thank you to these wonderful members of the Creighton Family for their unwavering dedication to our families.
Changes to Food Distribution
In order to streamline our meal services and keep our staff and community safe, we have made some changes to our meal distributions.
We will operate as normal providing breakfast and lunch from 8:30 - 11:30 AM
until Wed. April 8.
Starting Wed. April 8 all children will receive breakfast and lunch meals to last for 5 days. Service time will change to 10 AM - 12 PM at school sites and 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM at bus stops. All stops will remain the same. Our meal distribution days will then be every Wednesday through the remainder of the school year.
Please continue to check our website, www.CreightonSchools.org for updates.
Home Learning Resources
We have developed and are currently implementing a multi-phase plan to support sustained learning at home for all Creighton students. Our teachers, including general education, special education, and special areas, have developed and launched individual websites with resources and links to virtual learning environments. Teachers have started to facilitate two-way engagement, and active learning daily using these platforms. Teachers will communicate with your family to make sure that your child is able to access their learning at home.
A new home learning packet will be provided for pick-up during meal services on Wednesdays (10:00 AM - 12:00 PM) at all nine schools and on our mobile meal bus routes. You can access our home learning resources at www.CreightonSchools.org.
We will continue to evolve this plan as needed to meet the needs of Creighton students and families. A set of frequently asked questions about our home learning plan is below. We will continue to update these FAQs on our COVID-19 resource page as more questions arise. Thank you for being our partner in education.
Introducing: The Creighton Academy
The decision was not an easy one, community members, students, staff, and families submitted over 60 name suggestions for the new Creighton School.
A committee of 18 members representing community, students, staff, parents, and teachers came together to vote on the top 3 names to present to the Governing Board. After a second round of feedback and careful consideration, on March 24, 2020 the Creighton Governing Approved the renaming of Creighton School to The Creighton Academy.
Enrollment is open for The Creighton Academy! Act fast, space is limited.
The Instructional Design for The Creighton Academy will serve students in Kindergarten through fifth grade and include Open Design Learning Environments, Constructivist Education, Project Based Learning, Experiential Learning, Dual Language Instruction and Multi-Age Instruction.

2020 Census is LIVE!
The 2020 Census will determine how over $700 billion in federal government resources will be distributed each year into the next decade to states and localities.
The 2020 Census count will impact the federal funds Creighton School District receives each year for critical programs and services, including:
- Special Education
- Parent Liaisons
- Reading Interventionists
- Instructional Coaches
- Summer School
- Professional Learning
Census data determines where schools, roads, hospitals, child care centers, senior centers and other services should be built. Programs that rely on data and allocations derived from the census also include Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Section 8, Medicare Part B and State Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
Census data is used for appointment of Congressional seats and redistricting at all levels of the government. The Census is indispensable for monitoring discrimination and the enforcement of a broad range of civil rights laws.

The State of Arizona allows taxpayers to donate to schools and deduct this amount from their state taxes. The amount Arizona taxpayers can donate is as follows:
Single or Head of Household: $200.00
Married Filing Jointly: $400.00
You can donate at any of our school front offices or online by clicking here.
