Pilgrims on the Way of Truth

This past week was our most difficult, to be sure. It was, however, our very own students who showed us all how to come together as a family, remain strong, and make the world a better place in the face of our deepest sorrow. On behalf of the Marian faculty and staff, words cannot describe how thankful we are for the gift of our students. They enrich our hearts and ignite our souls every day. It is for all of our students - past, present, and future - that we continue to grow and strengthen our beloved school.

We invite you all to take those steps with us...

We have three final candidates for the Superintendent position with whom we will be able to meet and interview. We wanted to give you an overview of what to expect for these meeting sessions, and what responsibilities we will have throughout the process. As of today, we have two of the three candidates scheduled; the third candidate will be scheduled soon - but will follow the same format as the other two. We will soon have biographies of each candidate provided by our candidate search company, Gonser Gerber. As soon as those are available, we will share them with our dear Marian Community!

Wednesday, 4/19 & Thursday, 4/20 (one candidate per day)

1:00 pm: Candidate meets with Administrative Team

2:30 pm - Candidate/Faculty & Staff "town-hall" style meeting in cafeteria

4:00 pm - Formal Candidate Interview with Constituent Interview Team in Annex

6:00 pm - Candidate/Community Social in cafeteria

The Candidate/Faculty & Staff meeting will be a great opportunity for our teachers and staff to pose questions to the candidate, and engage in conversation.

The Formal Candidate Interview committee is in the process of being formed, and there will be representatives from multiple areas of the school and community.

The Candidate/Community Social is planned to be an informal social gathering, inviting parents, students, coaches, alumni and other members of the community in to meet and socialize with the candidate. This is an open invitation for our entire school community, so please consider stopping by the school to be a part of this very important event!

The goal of this entire process is to allow as many members of the Marian community be a part of the selection process.

Tyler Gardner - God has you in His keeping. We have you in our hearts...

This past week, we celebrated the wonderful life of Tyler Gardner, a member of the Class of 2018. Tyler wanted nothing more than to be a "typical" Marian Central student; to us, he will always be extraordinary. Tyler also wanted to bring more awareness and funding for a cure to pediatric melanoma so that no other child would endure this terrible disease. Let's continue to honor Tyler's life by donating to Jack's Fund.

Let Tyler's mission become our mission too.

Night of Prayer - Light a candle for Tyler Gardner & his family

On Divine Mercy Sunday, April 23rd, the St. Mary Youth Group in Woodstock will be hosting a Night of Prayer. Anytime between 7 pm and 8:30 pm all are welcome to come to St. Mary Church (corner of Lincoln and Tryon in Woodstock) to light a candle for Tyler and his family and for any other deceased loved ones, as well as those who are battling cancer or another illness. The church will be filled with candle light and music, and will be a peaceful opportunity to stop and lift up all your prayer intentions to our Lord. Most especially on Divine Mercy Sunday we pray, "Jesus, I trust in You." There will also be an opportunity for friends to gather in the St. Joseph Center for refreshments and fellowship. Your presence and your prayers will make a difference, so we hope you will join us.

Sophomore Class Ring Orders THIS WEEK!

On Tuesday, April 11th, Herff-Jones met with our Sophomore class to hand out class ring order packets! A representative will be available on Monday, April 17th from 3 - 5pm in the Gym Commons to answer any questions, provide sizing, and showcase sample rings for any parent or student who would like to stop by. On TUESDAY, April 18th - during all lunch periods - Herff-Jones will be in the Cafeteria to collect orders. Sizing and ordering guidance will also be available at that time as well!

Be sure to order your ring, as they will be delivered in time to celebrate a special RING BLESSING ceremony in the fall (beginning their Junior year!) It's a wonderful new tradition that is truly a memorable experience for the entire Class of 2019!

The Marian Library would like to encourage students to keep their minds sharp over the summer by reading some great books! This year, freshmen thru junior students will be allowed to check out up to 4 books for over the summer. To give them some extra motivation, the library is hosting The Great Booktalk on May 5, from 2:40-4:00, in the Marian cafeteria. There will be “talks” about great books, raffle prizes, a book swap, and pizza! This event is free to any Marian student, but attendance will be limited to 40. In order to attend, students must sign-up in the library by April 28.

Prom-Parent Volunteers Needed!

We are in need of 6 parents, preferably Freshman or Sophomore parents to deal Blackjack for a few hours during the prom. Prom will be at The Cotillion in Palatine. The card room will be open from 7:30 to 11:30. Chips are provided to any student that wants to play.

"Shelter from the Storm" Food Drive SUCCESS!

Our students collected 932 lbs of pantry items, along with a cash donation, and delivered it to our area food pantry this past Thursday! Food banks typically experience a drop in donations during the spring/summer months - so Marian's efforts to help stock the shelves at this time of the year is very important. This annual drive, along with our early fall "Marian Cares" event, provides an immediate relief for our community. Thank you to all who donated items, cash, transportation, time, and labor to make this event such a success.

Junior Year Boot Camp Available THIS SUMMER!

Any student who has graduated can share with you what educators have known for years - junior year is a rough one. Students start thinking about college, the course work becomes even more challenging, standardized tests, and is no wonder they stress out. Based on parent demand, Mrs. Hilton and Mrs. Littner are offering a Junior Year Boot Camp to help soon-to-be juniors begin to prepare for the rigors and stress of next fall. Attached you will find a letter which will give you details about the content, dates, and cost of the camp, as well as a registration form. This camp will be held from June 12-June 15th. We are limiting the class to 25 per class, so register early and mail it to the address on the form. Please make sure you put “JUNIOR BOOT CAMP” on the envelope as we have many camps going on this summer.

Senior Video NOW ACCEPTING "High School Memories" Photos!

It's been said that the days take forever, but the years go by in minutes. One minute, you're a freshmen and the next, you're selecting your graduation announcements! The Senior Student Council is collecting your favorite photos from high school to put together the popular SENIOR VIDEO that is shown at the Senior Breakfast. If you have pictures that you would like to be included, please submit them to Ms. Gallagher by April 30th. You can email photos to or send them to the school office in an envelope addressed to Ms. Gallagher. Please make sure you include your full name on the inside of the envelope and label each photo on the back with your student's last name. All photos will be safely returned to you as soon as they are scanned. All photos are due by April 30, 2017 either via email or through the school office.

Remember - the photos should be from Freshman-Senior year, and connected to Marian events or with Marian-affiliated activities (dances, sports, clubs, etc.)
