Liberty Park Elementary School Newsletter
Week of January 27, 2020
Students were very excited to celebrate the 100th day of school this week!
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Liberty Park Families,
We believe that recess is an important for students both socially and physically, however there may be times where students are not feeling well. If a parent requests their child to remain indoors, they can write a letter with that request for up to 2 days. If it is longer than 2 days, a note from a doctor would be required to keep the student indoors for recess. Occasionally, Indiana weather conditions require outdoor recess to be canceled. When temperature or heat index is above 90 students will not participate in any outdoor activities. In addition, when temperatures and/or wind chills are below 20 students do not have any outdoor activities.
I hope that you and your family have a great weekend and as always, I thank you for your continued support of Liberty Park Elementary!
Your Principal,
Jason Brooks

Notes from the Nurse
There have been confirmed cases of the flu at LP. Please keep your child at home if he/she has a fever of 100 or higher. Do not give your child Tylenol to get the fever down and send to school. Students must be fever free for 24 hours without taking medication before returning to school.
The Marion County Health Dept will be coming to LP to test for vision and hearing. First and third graders will be screened for vision, first and fourth graders will be screened for hearing. This event will take place February 18-21 at Liberty Park. If you do NOT want your student tested for hearing or vision, please send a letter to the school nurse indicating this, no later than February 13th. This is a free screening for the students. Thank you.

Additional Updates and Information
Valentines Cards - It is the time of year when valentines are being advertised in every store! If you are purchasing those for your child's class, please refrain from purchasing those with candy/suckers attached to the cards
Delays/Closings - As we know, Indiana winter weather can sneak up fast. With the cold temperatures and wind chills, it is important watch for any potential school start information. There are several places to get up to date information on school delays and closings including all local TV/news stations and their websites/apps, Warren Township's new website/app, and the Warren or Liberty Park Facebook/Twitter social media accounts. Please remember to look for MSD Warren Township or Warren Township Schools NOT Warren County.
Winter Recess Policy - School Board and School policy encourage outdoor recess for our K-4 students whenever possible to encourage activity and social playtime. Our threshold for cold weather is 20 degrees. When the temperature falls below 20, students will have recess indoors. The 20 degree temperature would also include wind chill. In other words, if the temperature is 25 but the windchill falls below 20 degrees, students would remain indoors for recess. If students are not feeling well or a parent wants them to stay in for health reasons beyond 1-2 days, a doctor's note is required.
4th grade Parents - Please watch for a permission letter to come home with your student regarding the Human Growth and Development session facilitated by LifeSmart. This is a program offered to 4th grade students across the district. This letter includes links to access more information regarding this opportunity. Our program date is Thursday, January 30th.
AM Drop Off: Students should not be dropped off in the front of school until the 7:55am bell. In efforts to keep all students safe, kids should remain in vehicles until the bell.
- Birthday Treat Policy: All MSD Warren Schools have aligned their birthday celebration policies to the district’s wellness policy. As part of our efforts towards health and wellness, we follow a “no birthday treats” guideline.
- Student Absences: If your child is ill and will not be at school, please call the front office at 532-1850 or use your School Dismissal Manager App to report his/her absence. Please call and report if your child will be arriving late to school due to a doctor’s appointment. Doing so helps us to know that your child is safe and with you.
