West Lafayette Choirs Update

Volunteers and Donations Needed for September 25

With an earlier call time, it is necessary to feed the members of the choirs prior to our concert on September 25. The meal will consist of Papa John's pizza, and donated fruits, veggies, and cookies. Students are welcome to bring their own food to fit their dietary needs. All donations should be tree nut/peanut free. Click HERE to sign up.

Contact Mr. Waltz directly if you'd be able to chaperone and arrange the meal (approx. 5-6:45 p.m.).

Uniforms for Fun, Fun, Fun!

With more movement and popular tunes on our first concert of the year, students will not be in their formal wear for their first concert. T-shirts will be provided through course fees. Students are responsible for the following items:

Boys: Black dress pants, black dress shoes, and black dress socks.

Girls: Black dress pants or ankle length black skirt (no leggings) and black, close-toed dress shoes with a 1-2 inch heal.

As with all choir performances, hair should be worn in a style that remains off the face and eyebrows throughout the performance without adjustment.

Students who do not follow uniform guidelines will have points taken from their concert score accordingly.

JH Choir Cinderella

Payments and forms for the November trip to see Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella at Clowes Hall are due September 26. Financial assistance is available to those who need it. Students without financial need may anonymously donate toward helping classmates attend this trip. If a student has raised money through fundraising for their individual trip account, that amount can be found in the choir room. Payment information must be turned in with this form.

Students who are unable to attend this event should submit an online request for absence by September 26. Make-up work for this event will be 8 hours of service during the 2nd nine weeks.

Vwa Bel and Chorale at Long Center October 1

On October 1, students in Vwa Bel and Chorale will have a unique performance opportunity with a professional musical theater performer, Tim Shew. Rehearsal for the event will be 12:45-4p.m. at Long Center, and the performance will be that evening beginning at 8 p.m. (students arrive at 6:45 p.m.)

Tickets are $15 and are available at the Long Center Box Office.

If financial need is preventing you from seeing your child perform at Long Center, please contact me for a limited number of free tickets.

High School Music Department China Exchange

Through work through the Confucius Institute of Purdue, our music department has won the opportunity to travel to China over spring break. Due to limits of the grant, participation of the choral program will be limited to a quartet. Students received information about the trip and selection process during class on Tuesday. Auditions for a spot on the trip will be judged by three music professionals (not affiliated with WLHS), and will be held October 4, 6-9 p.m.

This is an exciting opportunity for our school, and we are hoping that this will open doors for future exchange opportunities with the contacts we make in China. In addition, this audition format will provide an educational experience different from how we typically do auditions in our school.

Absences from Performances

Please familiarize yourself with the choirs' absence policies regarding scheduled performances. To be considered for an excused absence, the Absence Request Form must be submitted at least 2 weeks in advance of the missed performance.

Emergency absences from a performance must be communicated to Mr. Waltz within 24 hours of the students call time.

All absences will be listed as a '0' in Skyward until the student has completed make-up work. Students request make-up work using a form in the choir room.
