SLMS Titan News
Closing out the Week of May 8, 2023
Titans,
Thank you PTO and parents for a terrific Teacher Appreciation Week. Our SLMS staff were spoiled with the fantastic Taco Tuesday bar, personalized gift cards, and treats. Our SLMS community is AMAZING!
Today we had our end of year 8th Grade Celebration Event. Our 8th grade students partied all day and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the event. They participated in bounce houses, games, movie watching, TikTok station, and ended the day with our KHS Cheerleaders leading a Pep Rally! Thank you parents and PTO for the event. Our PTO sponsored lunch which the students loved and asked for more!
Next week, we will have our End of Year awards for 6th and 7th grade students. Please see the time and day information below. Reminders and more detailed information will be sent out by Monday.
We only have two weeks left. Please take a look at our last week of school Exam Schedule.
Student safety continues to be a top priority for our campus. At dismissal, please remember our safety rules. NO left turns out of the circle drive. Students should walk their bikes once on campus. No cell phones in the school zone. Please help us keep all of our Titans safe.
Thank you all for supporting our SLMS Community!
Sincerely,
Dr. Latoya Garrett
Principal

Whole Child Initiative
Fort Bend ISD’s Behavioral Health and Wellness Department will offer monthly seminars again this year that will provide mental and physical health resources for families. Each seminar will focus on a different area of health for students and families and are aligned to the District’s mission to support the mental, behavioral, social, emotional and physical health of all students in FBISD. The seminars are part of the District’s Whole Child Health Initiative.
The hour-long seminars will be virtual and no registration is needed to participate. All seminars will begin at 6 p.m.
May 15, 2022 – Violence Prevention
Helpful tools, information and methods of prevention regarding a variety of safety-related topics to help keep our students safe will be shared with the community.
Visit the Whole Child Health Initiative website to learn more.
Cell Phone Policy
Our cell phone policy is in place. Please speak to your student to make sure the cell phones are off and placed in backpacks. Cell phones not adhering to the school policy will be confiscated and students can pick them up at the end of the school day (for the first and second confiscation).
On the third confiscation, a parent will be required to pick up the cell phone and pay a $15 fee to SLMS. The district cell phone policy can be found in The Student Code of Conduct. Click here to access the FBISD Student Code of Conduct
Attendance Information
· All absence notes (from parent, doctor, etc.) must be received within five days of a student’s return from an absence or the absence will be considered unexcused.
· If a student is absent four or more consecutive days because of personal illness, a note from a doctor or health clinic is required upon return to school. No exceptions.
· Absence notes may be emailed to mary.lavergne@fortbendisd.com or faxed to 281-327-3089. Any note brought in by a student must be turned in to the Front Office. Absence notes must include the student’s first and last name, the reason for the absence and the parent signature along with a telephone number.
· Students arriving late or leaving early will sign in and out of the Front Office. Parents/emergency contacts must come to the front office with your photo id to sign out your student for early dismissal.
· If you receive a call that your child was marked absent in a class and you feel this is an error, please leave a message or email your child’s teacher about the error. The teacher will then contact the attendance office if an error was made. The attendance office cannot make any changes without notification from the teacher to make a correction.
Student ID Badges
All Titan students now have their Titan ID badge and lanyard. The expectation is that students wear their badge daily.
Student badges provide access to services within the building, including the following access/check-ins:
• Cafeteria meal payments
• Library services
If a SLMS student arrives at school without a badge, they will be given a temporary wristband to wear during the school day at the beginning of their first period on campus. The student must wear the wristband all day.
Students who lose their badge will be offered temporary identification. If the old badge cannot be located replacement fees may be required.
If a student does not have a badge, the following consequences will apply:
MISPLACED/LOST BADGE
1st-3rd Offense
• Student given temporary wristband
4th Offense
• Recorded as discipline referral in Skyward
• Student pays $5 for new printed badge in Revtrak
5th Offense and Beyond
• Recorded as discipline referral in Skyward with a consequence
• Student pays $5 for new printed badge in Revtrak
The ID badge system has been added as an additional safety measure for our students. Please help your student find a system to keep their badge so they can have it daily.
