Principal's Message 5/6/22

We are only weeks away from the last day of the 21-22 school year. The sprint to the finish line begins! Opportunity for students to improve grades remains. Parents and guardians, your assistance to ensure students arrive on time to school every day is much appreciated. Please help us by checking in with students regarding their schoolwork and monitoring grades in Skyward. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our teaching staff, school counselors, or administrative offices.

This past week was National Teacher Appreciation Week. We have a tradition recognizing all our staff during this week. We know teamwork makes the dream work. We know it takes a village to raise our children. This takes all our certified staff working in partnership with our bus drivers, food service staff, maintenance staff, secretarial staff, and others who have made serving this community their occupation. I am very appreciative of all the work and dedication our District 126 staff brings to our schools every day.

I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the entire Zion-Benton community for the pleasure of serving as the principal of Zion-Benton High School for the last nine years. Several weeks ago, I was promoted to the position of Executive Director of Leadership Development and Strategic Planning for District 126 for next year. While I continue in the role of principal until June 30, 2022, I am excited to continue to serve District 126 and the Zion-Benton community in this new role beginning July 1st and will help the new principal in any way I can once this person is hired. I love this district and I love this community. In my new role, I will continue to help the district meet its mission to promote self-worth, social responsibility, and life-long learning in partnership with our community. The district’s vision will remain my vision in my new role, to empower students to thrive in today’s society.

I want to wish everyone a very smooth end of the school year and a great summer break. To the Class of 2022, best of luck as you take your talents and ambitions into your post-secondary endeavors. For all the underclassmen, we will back at it once again on the first day of the 22-23 school year on Thursday, August 18, 2022.

FINAL EXAMS: Tue. May 17th, Wed. May 18th, Thu. May 19th

Big picture
Looking forward to the last week of school, we will run a Final Exam Schedule. Semester 2 Final Exams will run similar to Semester 1. The spirit of Final Exams is to improve grades by demonstrating levels of mastery and/or understanding. Students who are earning an "A" in a particular class going into the Final Exam days will be exempt from those Final Exams in the classes they are earning an "A". These students will be marked “F for Field Trip” prior to each exam day. Regardless of whether a student does not show up for their Final Exam or the grade they earn on the Final exam, the student's grade going into the final exam will not drop. It can ONLY improve. We need parents and guardians to support our staff's efforts to encourage students to strive for excellence and improvement.
