Principal's Message
Disc Dogs Assembly! I’m sure you have already heard about our wonderful Dog Assembly that occurred on Wednesday. These agility dogs were truly amazing! It was wonderful having our whole school together and hearing our kids whoop, holler and laugh! We are very grateful to our PTO who made this event happen!
Memorial Day…Please realize there will be no school this Monday, May 30th. We will resume school on Tuesday, May 31st. Enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend!!!
Sincerely, Jack Yates

PTO Buzz
Wednesday, the kids saw a school assembly by DISC DOGS OF MICHIGAN! The dogs put on a great show and the kids enjoyed popsicles afterwards. We had perfect weather for this full-school outdoor assembly.
Mark your calendars for Field Day on Friday, June 10th. We have a sign-up for parents that wish to volunteer. Spaces are filling-up fast:

We wish to give a HUGE thanks to Jami Kilduff and Karen Nicholson for their years with the Hornung Elementary School PTO. You generously helped us through our peak Covid-19 chaos with your efforts to enrich our children’s education. The students, teachers, and staff all appreciate your dedication and hard work.
The PTO elected our 2022-23 board. We are very excited to welcome our new Co-Vice Presidents: Erin Bradley & Lesley Beebe; and our new Treasurer: Michele Mannooch. Deanne Ferrell and Bill Rockwell will stay-on as President and Secretary. We are looking forward to the 2022-23 school with this team!
Thanks to everyone that helped to raise money for Senior Survivor last week! Hornung raised a total of $1079.61 The 4th grade raised the most and will have a popsicle party on June 3rd.
The Survivors are just shy of their $100,000 goal. Any donation helps!

Counselor Corner
Well, we made it to the final stretch of the year! The last few weeks, when the sun is shining and energy is high! And after so many months of hurdles and challenges, it is time to celebrate all that we accomplished and overcame during this school year. The Elementary Counselors would like to take time this month to celebrate our students and highlight their amazing strengths. We plan to take time with classrooms to focus on lessons missed at some other point in the year or revisit specific topics that need a refresher. We want to end this year on a positive note and recognize how truly resilient our students are, and we hope that you take some time at home to do this as well.
Thank you for the amazing support from our staff and parents as we worked to connect with and support all of our students this year. We are already working towards our plans for next school year and look forward to expanding our avenues of support.
More Resources: We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home!

The Brighton Area Schools is part of a consortium to serve students in temporary living situations that provides financial support for educational needs, referral for housing, clothing and other needs, general support and technical assistance. To ensure compliance with federal law, all school staff must help identify student living in the following situations: emergency shelters/transitional housing, motels/hotels, car, parks or public spaces, shared housing due to a loss of housing or economic hardship, or living temporarily with non-parent or guardian.
The district’s homeless liaison is Starr Acromite and each building has trained staff members to assist in the endeavor. Our consortium contact at the Livingston Educational Service Agency is Candice Uyttendaele.
Please contact your building principal or Starr Acromite at 810-299-4040 for information/assistance.
