Posts from the Principal / January 2023

Happy 2023!

I hope the start to this new year finds you well! A new year full of new opportunities is always exciting. As we close 2022, we celebrate our accomplishments and lessons learned. We wish that 2023 brings all of us laughs, peace, progress, and personal achievements!

We will continue to discuss setting and achieving attainable goals with the kids. We have 5 months of school to this school year and a lot left to master. As we enter the 3rd quarter, there will be more emphasis on mastering grade level standards. If you are interested in the standards that your child must master you can find that information here: KY Academic Standards Here you can select what subject you are interested in (for example, mathematics) and then scroll to your child's grade level.

If you are interested in what specific standards your child is studying in their classroom, you can always find each grade level's curriculum maps on our website. (please keep in mind depending on the needs of our students the units could be a couple weeks ahead or behind)

NH Curriculum Maps - On our website, click on Curriculum, then curriculum map, and select your child's grade level and subject.

Foodraiser for New Haven

Our scheduled foodraiser for New Haven is January 25th at Texas Roadhouse. If you are looking for a night off from cooking check out Texas Roadhouse. All proceeds go directly back to our kids!

Student Opportunities

I will always try to include opportunities for students- within the school or community that parents might be interested in for their child. Below are the linked fliers.

Boys Basketball- Will be starting in the next weeks. Information was shared with students in 3rd - 5th grade.

Cheerleading- We currently do not have a Cheerleading sponsor. Sponsors have to go through BC orientation (to be a sponsor you must be an employee of BC schools). If you are interested in becoming NH's cheerleading sponsor please contact Mrs. Goble. (mary.goble@boone.kyschools.us)

We are bringing a jump rope club to our primary students (k-2) beginning after winter break. It will be after school 1 day a week (most likely Thursdays). More information will be sent home with our primary students soon.

Winter Weather (REPEAT INFORMATION)

It's that time to address winter weather and weather days!

I have been told that it is a possibility that the Superintendent will call snow days this school year. Depending on the type of weather and the recommendations of the transportation department, county road crews, etc. the students could have at at home instructional day or a snow day. Our Board of Education decides at the April board meeting whether students will make up the days at the end of the year or if we have enough instructional minutes from this calendar year to cover the days.

I am telling you this so that you have a heads up in preparing for either scenario. We understand that some students are unable due to their circumstances (childcare, etc.) to log-in for in-person instruction. Every grade level will prepare for at home instructional days and will share the expectations with the students, including how to log-on, where to go, where to find assignments, and how to reach teachers if there are questions. Information regarding the expectations will be shared with families as well. Many of the at home instructional days will be specifically focused on solidifying standards and checking for mastery, unless we are anticipating a major storm, then plans will be altered.

My hope is that mother nature will be gentle on us this year and our preparation will be moot, but we are better to have a plan in place and communicated to families to be prepared. If you have any specific questions you can reach out to your child's teacher.

Keep'n up with the Calendar! (dates will be added/ revised each month as needed)
