St. Bede School

Dear St. Bede School Families,

I hope this letter finds you enjoying the beautiful summer weather with your family. I can’t believe that we are just about a month away from the start of school. Summer seems to go by much faster than when I was a kid.

I am writing to you today to let you know of the myriad of activities taking place this summer. One of my goals is to keep you informed of all that is taking place at our school. Up-to-date and additional information will be sent to you regularly throughout the school year via newsletters and emails as well as on our school web page. If you have questions or concerns that arise, please do not hesitate to give your child’s teacher or me a call. I look forward to having a long and rewarding relationship with you and your family.

These are exciting times at St. Bede School. Our custodial staff is finishing up with summer cleaning, and the building looks great! We anticipate the students being able to change classrooms this year. Teachers are excited about a return to a more typical school year than last. We are still awaiting guidelines from the Archdiocese on COVID rules and protocols for school this year.

I wanted to let everyone know that Colleen Schoenberger has resigned from St. Bede School. I want to thank Colleen for her years of service to our school's students, parents, and staff. We wish her well in her future endeavors!

We currently are looking for a Middle School Social Studies/8th-grade Homeroom teacher and two part-time teachers: Art and Music. Both positions are two days a week. Working with the Archdiocese and other Catholic schools in the area, we hope to share a teacher between schools. If you know someone who has a degree in either of those areas and might be interested in teaching at St. Bede, please send them my way. I am confident we will have outstanding new teacher hires to add to our returning staff.

Our Extended Day Program (EDP) has several part-time positions available for the upcoming school year. If you enjoy working with children and are seeking employment that provides for a flexible schedule, our EDP program might be right for you. We are looking for both before and after-school employees. For more information, please get in touch with Mary Kay Gontarek at either (847) 587-7157 or edp@stbedeschool.com.

One of the many things I have been doing before the school year is reviewing the 5Essentials Survey that students, teachers, and parents took last spring. Two areas of strength identified through the survey for our school are a supportive environment and involved families. St Bede School offers solid peer support for academic work, student-teacher trust, and a safe environment conducive to learning. Our school families have faith in our teachers, along with strong involvement in the school. A couple of areas the school will be focusing on as a result of the Survey include strengthening teacher influence in decision making and re-establishing collaborative teaching practices that were lost due to the many COVID protocols. As the new principal at St. Bede, one of my goals is to develop a solid and supportive working relationship with the staff and families.

In closing, you are invited to be an active participant at St. Bede School. Whether you are a classroom volunteer, a member of the Parent Association, part of our School Advisory Committees, or one of our coaches or extra-curricular directors, you are encouraged to be involved! Research on schools clearly demonstrates that parent participation in their child’s school coincides with a greater likelihood of academic success for their child.

Have an excellent rest of the summer!
