The Compass

Week of January 10, 2022

Navigation Notes

Greetings Westside Families! Thank you for an awesome start to 2022 last week! It was wonderful to see all of the students back in our halls and jumping back into learning. We appreciate you having them here and on time.

As you know, COVID is on the rise in our community again and it is affecting our staff and students. Here are a few reminders:

  • If your child tests positive, please call the school. With valid results, we can excuse their absences.
  • If your child has symptoms or is feeling sick, please keep them home if possible. Any student who exhibits symptoms at school will have to be picked up.
  • If a household member tests positive, students who are ASYMPTOMATIC may attend school per parent discretion. If you choose to quarantine them, they can stay home up to 7 days from date of exposure.
  • However, if they develop symptoms, please keep them home and follow the flowchart presented by BPS here at this link.

We appreciate your support with the health and safety of all here at Westside. We are still utilizing all our protocols at school including deep cleanings and sanitizing, hand sanitizer stations, social distancing and optional masks.

Report Cards for the 2nd nine weeks will be issued on Thursday, January 13th. Please review and sign before returning the envelope to school.

This week, students in 3rd-6th grade will begin participating in the Youth Truth Survey. This survey gathers input from students about their school experience and other topics such as mental wellness and school safety. We use this data to better serve them and make positive change as needed.

Do you have a future Explorer at home under the age of 5? BPS has launched their Thrive by Five initiative to support our future students from birth to kindergarten! Click HERE for a multitude of resources and information.

Reminder that next Monday, January 17th, BPS schools will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, 1/18.

As always, feel free to reach out to us with any positive feedback or concerns. We look forward to another amazing semester together!
