Math, Science, and Social Studies
*Most students have passed all single fact family accuracy checks and we are ready to work on mixing all facts together. We will continue to work on all facts in class and take an accuracy check this Friday over all facts. I will be sending a note home with students who still have single fact families to master this week so you will know which facts to help your child study.
Science-We will complete our Batteries Included unit on Monday. We had a great time with our Toy Take Apart day and I learned a lot. I learned that next year I will definitely have all screws loosened on toys before they are brought to school or have some dad power in the room! I would love to say that I have all these great pictures, but I don't because I was working on trying to get the screws to budge in all the toys so I didn't have a spare moment. The kids still had a great time and we were able to see a lot of interesting circuits and I have to say that the inside of a Kindle is very interesting.
On Tuesday, we will begin our "Wiggling Worms" unit on the observation and study of earthworms. They arrived last week and the kids are super excited to get started. We will record our learning in our worm journals. It's going to be so fun!!
Reading, Writing, Vocab and Word Study
Reading--We will wrap up our reading like historians as we finish our whole class novel. Later in the week, students will have a Book tasting to determine the historical fiction book they would like to read in a small group literature study. We will begin our small group lit studies by the end of the week. Be watching for a note coming home about this!
Writing--We will be writing like historians! Students have been working to research famous people and places from the time period of the Civil War. This week, they will be synthesizing their research and creating posters to display with the information. They will also be writing "journal entries" as the person they have been researching.
