Emails About Our Students
We received the two email below about our 8th grade basketball team. Please read and enjoy!
Email #1
Greetings Fr. Stan!
On Sunday, the 8th Boys Basketball teams from St. Louis and St. Roch played a very competitive game to advance to State Finals in the CYO tournament.
I had the privilege to attend this game as my grandson is a “homeschooler” who plays for St. Roch. On both teams were strong competitive players. St. Roch did win by 1 point in the last seconds of the game.
It’s been said the real test of character is how a person handles adversity or loss. Well, hands down, the coaches and players and parents representing St. Louis displayed character and principle in the midst of a very competitive game. After teams congratulated each other, your coaches brought both teams to center court to pray together. That was awesome!
But what I witnessed following that inspired me. Many of the young men on your team sought out Patrick from the St. Roch team and - I am paraphrasing- but they told him “hey man, you are really good!”
How extraordinary! That these young men - who did feel sting of loosing a well fought game - would reach out to a competitor! WOW! Just WOW!
I am sending this email so you know others see, what an extraordinary community St. Louis truly is!
Feel free to share.
Peace to you!

Email #2
Fr. Stan and All,
My name is Bruce Scifres, and I am blessed to be the Executive Director of CYO. I was also at the game yesterday, and would like to echo the sentiment expressed by Margaret!
Throughout the game, both teams played extremely hard, and gave everything they had until the last whistle blew. Like Margaret, I was so impressed with how your coaches handled the kids during the game, and especially after a heart-breaking loss that was decided in the last few seconds of the contest. I had one of the officials comment to me later that a couple St. Louis kids came up to him after the game and thanked him and gave him a “bro hug!” You don’t see that very often, especially after a heart-breaking loss!
The icing on the cake was when your head coach brought the two teams together out at mid-court to pray together… this act of character and sportsmanship brought tears to my eyes!! I did compliment your coaches and players after the game for doing such an extraordinary job. However, there is merit to sharing this with you and others who represent the good people of St. Louis parish! You deserve to be very proud of them, Father, they were an awesome reflection of you and your community, as well as the true spirit of CYO sports!
Please feel free to pass these messages on to the coach and players. They certainly made an impression on all of us in attendance yesterday! God Bless!
Mr. Chad Moeller
