December 8, 2019
Dear Charlemagne Families:
We hope your December is off to a great start! We’re looking forward to lots of events happening before the start of winter break.
Lost and Found
Please check the lost and found for any items your child may have lost. The racks/bins are currently packed! All items not claimed by the end of the day on Friday, December 13 will be donated to First Place Family Shelter as part of our winter warmth drive donation.
Volunteers Needed!
The canned food drive ends December 13 at Charlemagne’s Winter Market. We would love volunteers to join us then to help us sort and pack food items for pickup by Food for Lane County as well as organize clothes for the Winter Warmth Drive. If you would like to volunteer, please sign up here:

Food Drive, Winter Market and Winter Warmth Drive
Monday, Dec. 2 through Friday, Dec. 13
Our canned food drive, in collaboration with Food for Lane County, kicked off last week and our teachers are busy teaching about compassion, hunger, and giving within our community. We have a school-wide goal of raising 1,000 pounds of food, and we still need more donations in order to meet our goal!
Can everyone please aim to bring 5 items (or more if you can) to your student’s classroom and put in the Food for Lane County boxes? If we all do this, we can reach our school wide goal!
The canned food drive ends December 13 at Charlemagne’s Winter Market. See the volunteer link above! At Winter Market, we will also have opportunities for students to make cards to give to Meals on Wheels recipients, and you can help collect and sort items for the Winter Warmth Drive for First Place Family Shelter.
Here is a list of items that Food for Lane County would like to receive:
· Canned meat (tuna, chicken, salmon, corned beef)
· Low-sugar fruit, dried fruit, jams and jellies, unsweetened apple sauce
· Canned and dried beans (pinto, navy, kidney, refried)
· Canned stew, chili, hearty soups, and broth
· Boxed macaroni and cheese
· Pasta, rice, cereal, corn meal, tortillas
· Cooking oil, olive oil, cumin, chilies
· Canned tomato products (whole, paste, spaghetti sauce)
· Mole and enchilada sauce
· Peanut Butter
We hope that everyone who can will participate!
If you have any hats, gloves, socks and coats to donate to the Winter Warmth Drive for First Place Family Shelter, please bring them to the Winter Market after school on December 13 for our one-day event.
Oregon Battle of the Books
Any questions can be directed to Kim Reeder, our wonderful OBOB coordinator, at kimcooleyreeder@gmail.com
Charlemagne’s Winter Market
The Winter Market (formerly Holiday Market) will be Friday, December 13 from 1:45-3:00 pm in the gym. All students are invited to participate. Kiddos can show off their handiwork by selling items like handmade crafts, homemade baked goods and comic books. Participants have also enjoyed selling collectibles like Pokemon cards and stuffed toys in the past. Families are welcome to stop in and shop as well. Many children choose to trade with each other. Any money raised is for each individual to choose what they would like to do with.
Participants need to sign up for a table at the Winter Market on the signup list in the office. To volunteer to help set up or tear down or if you have any questions, email Kristin Bartus: kristinbartus@yahoo.com
Help a Family in Need
This time of year we love to help those within our own school community. We currently have a request to help with transportation costs for a family in need. If you are able to donate please email Mme. Bernadette at conover.b@4j.lane.edu. Thank you for your generosity!
Community Night Out Fundraiser
Please come hang out with Charlemagne friends and support our school! Visit Mucho Gusto (either location!) on either Mon, 12/9 or Tues, 12/10 and they will donate 25% of our purchases to Charlemagne PTO when you present the flyer attached to this newsletter!
Class Reps
We are looking for parents willing to volunteer as representatives for your child’s class to liaison with the PTO once a month at our monthly meetings. This will ensure the families in each classroom are connected with the PTO. Please email frenchiepto@gmail.com if you’re willing to volunteer. We currently need reps for:
Second Grade - Mme. Sion & Mme. Kim
Fourth Grade - Mme. Shelli & Mme. Jana
Fifth Grade - Mme. Grabowski
Next Campus Clean-up Planned
Please join us after school on Monday, December 16 for our next campus clean-up! If the weather cooperates, we will find some more outside projects. Most likely, we will be inside working on some room moves and materials organization.
