EVENT NIGHT & WONDER SHOWING
Our first Event Night of the year is finally here! Students are busy putting the final touches on their presentations and end products for this important night. Invitations have been sent and preparations are being made to ensure students have a positive experience as they share their learning with our esteemed guests.
We know family members will be so proud to see what their child has accomplished! We encourage you to take photos with your child and post to social media using the hashtag #jdalpride. Once you have had a moment to celebrate, please give your child a chance to interact with other visitors while you enjoy the other projects students have to offer:)
Students are invited to stay after school until Event Night. They should not wear their Event Night outfits to school, however, because we have to do a lot of moving to do to get our school ready for the event. Students will have plenty of time to change afterward. Please remember that this is a professional event; students should wear business-like clothing. If your child needs help putting together an outfit, please let us know.
We will put the school back together Friday morning and and then head to a private showing of the movie Wonder after lunch. Students and staff will take city transit to the movie, unless a student has his or her own vehicle. Students are not allowed to ride with other students. Students will be dismissed from the theatre at 3:30. Please arrange to pick up at the theatre or have your child take city transit home.
If you would like to learn more about this PG film, please read the description below from www.imdb.com:
Based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman. Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade. As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to discover their compassion and acceptance, Auggie's extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can't blend in when you were born to stand out.
It is our hope that this film will inspire our learning community to have open dialogue about the importance of being kind to one another as well as to oneself. This is a learning event that we expect all students to attend. If your family needs assistance with the $5 ticket price, or if you have other questions regarding this film, please contact me.
Thank you for being a dragon! We appreciate you and we believe in you.
With gratitude,
Jen + the JDAL Staff
