Weekly WOW - July 17
East Vincent Elementary School
GREETINGS FROM EV PRINCIPAL, MS. SEELEY
Dear East Vincent Elementary School Family,
The summer has been filled with planning for the re-opening of schools in OJRSD. While we continue to receive updates to the guidelines, we also continue to prepare our learning environment for social distancing, for cleaning and sanitizing procedures, and of course, for teaching and learning.
As parents/guardians, you will have a choice as to whether you plan to send your children to school, to a hybrid between school/remote learning, or to engage in the OJR Cyber Academy (remote learning). You will have the opportunity to make that choice via Skyward in early August.
Many thanks to the EV staff and families who attended this week's focus groups and/or who reviewed the plan and slides and sent emails/texts with notes of gratitude, thoughts, and suggestions. More information sessions will be shared in the upcoming weeks pertaining to the OJR Cyber Academy, and the hybrid learning options. Our plan is to equip you with as much knowledge as possible so that you can make an informed choice for your child's education in OJRSD.
As we move forward, please know this is such an overwhelming time for all of us as we plan for a multitude of unknowns. I will continue to share as much information as possible with you, solicit feedback, and ask you to add your voice to plans specific to EV. I'll be asking for volunteers to join me for EV-specific focus groups once the OJRSD Health and Safety Plan is approved by the OJRSD Board of School Directors.
To learn more about the plans thus far, refer to the Skylert sent on July 15. You can learn more at the OJRSD Board of School Director meetings scheduled for this Monday, July 20 at 7:00 and Tuesday, July 21 at 6:00. Both meetings will be virtual and the link will be posted on the OJRSD webpage shortly before each meeting.
This edition of the WOW includes beautiful artwork by EV students through the 2019-2020 school year, Honor Artist selections, and a Kindness Poster winner.
The last edition of the WOW included some ways to stay connected through two reading opportunities, staffing updates, yearbook information, 2020-2021 calendar reminders, volunteer clearance information and more.
I hope you stay connected with us through the #EVReadsAllSummer Stay Connected Challenge on Facebook and Twitter and each Wednesday for Listen and Lunch Mystery Readers.
Miss you!
Be well,
Ms. Seeley

EV Student Wins Kindness Poster Contest
Congratulations to Darcy Rolfe, a rising second grade student from East Vincent Elementary School, for being a winner in the PAIU Message of Kindness Poster Contest!
In February, the Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Units (PAIU) sponsored a contest open to all intermediate units with the hopes of engaging students in their annual conference. The Chester County Intermediate Unit received 38 delightful posters from 11 schools on or before our deadline of March 6.
Due to the forced school closures this spring, PAIU canceled the statewide contest. Despite the disappointment, CCIU continued forward with judging our posters with a panel of experts, including folks from the Chester County Art Association. Darcy Rolfe won 3rd Place in the Primary (K-2) Category!
HONOR ARTISTS
At the end of each year, Ms. Smith toils with the difficult decision of who will be the Honor Artists. Honor Artists may be students ranging from kindergarten through sixth grade. The students who are chosen have their art professionally framed and displayed in the EV Main Office area until they graduate from Owen J. Roberts High School. Honor Artists are announced at the Grade 6 Promotion Ceremony and at the End-Of-Year Assembly, but due to COVID-19 we needed to design a Plan B.
This week, Ms. Smith invited the 2019-2020 Honor Artists to EV. Students were surprised with their chosen pieces. Students received a certificate and had photos taken with their families and with Ms. Smith.
Pictures of the Honor Artists are below. Honor Artists not pictured include Jayonna Richardson, Orion Balan, Yasiyah Brown-Branch, and Sophia Shea.
