Home Design of the Future

Sustainable Ecosystems

I would like my future home to be located in the Temperate Deciduous Forest. By doing this, I would be surrounding myself with various plants, trees, and animals, such as moss, ferns, birch trees, magnolia trees, etc. This would provide me with lots of sunlight in the winters when the leaves fall off, and shade in the summer when the temperature increases again and the leaves grow back. This would help to heat and cool my home. It would also provide me with lots of oxygen from the plants.

I would probably farm tomatoes, sweet bell peppers, carrots, celery, and cucumbers. I chose these vegetables because they can grow in a Temperate Deciduous Forest environment. I would avoid all pesticides if possible because most of them cause great damage to the environment and can be harmful to not only humans, but animals too. I would specifically try to avoid any pesticides that could potentially be harmful to myself or my surroundings, such as fungicides or herbicides.

I would choose to park a hybrid vehicle in my driveway so i could have a method of transportation readily available at all times. I would only use the car when needed, and carpool or use public transit whenever possible instead. This would help to reduce pollution and prevent damage on the environment.

It is very important to use different waste management methods in your home. I would use composting, recycling, and a GOOS (Good On One Side) bin. This would help to prevent unnecessary waste build-up, and the GOOS bin would help me to make the most of my extra blank space on my papers before recycling them.

My family would sponsor an African White Lion at our local zoo. We would choose this animal because my favourite animal is the lion and because African American Lions are extremely endangered and i would like to help them out and prevent their extinction before its too late, as they face possible extinction in the near future.

Atoms, Elements, and Compounds

Three chemicals in my future household that could potentially be toxic to humans are Windex, Clorox, and Anti-Freeze. Clorox contains bleach, which contains the elements sodium, chlorine, and oxygen. Below is a Bohr-Rutherford diagram of the element Oxygen. Oxygen is located in Group 16, and is considered a non-metal.

The Characteristics of Electricity

I would use solar power in my home because it is a very useful and easily accessible resource that we will never run out of and is sustainable for the future generations.

Some physical structures that would make my home more energy efficient are energy efficient appliances such as energy efficient dishwashers, fridges, stoves, etc. I could also get heating and air-conditioning devices that shut off when the requested temperature is acquired. The shade in the summers and extra sunlight in the winters would also help me to be more energy efficient. I would use energy efficient appliances because they would help me to conserve energy in the long run.

I would include LED light bulbs in my household because they are the most energy efficient and tend to last for long periods of time.

The Study of the Universe

I would include an ear thermometer and a TV satellite dish in my future household. These are two different types of technology that was developed and researched do to space exploration.
