A MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL PRINCIPAL:
What a great time to be a PARROT!
As we have made it halfway through the school year, I felt like it was time to share a STATE OF THE SCHOOL address. Don't you?
Did you know that we were recently named to the SIC Honor Roll for the Dick and Tunkey Riley SIC Award? Just 11 schools in the entire state of South Carolina received this recognition! Our application focused on the work our SIC is doing to support literacy at our school with the help of community partnerships like Verizon, Subaru, and Columbia Fireflies. This month we will be compiling our Level 2 Application to compete for the state level recognition. A special thanks to the parents that serve on our SIC with us! If you would like to support our school, we are seeking community donations to raise funding for our media collection. Do you have a community business that might be willing to donate? Please reach out to Dr. Barber at kbarber@richland2.org for more information on how to get a formal request to these organizations!
Our very own Pam Gilmore won the R2 Innovates Superintendents Challenge for the DISTRICT! She will receive stand up desks for her entire classroom as a result of her application! We are so proud of her for this district recognition!
Our AVID site team has been asked to become an AVID showcase site in our district! We are so proud of our AVID teachers in grades 3-5. They have created a strong college/career culture in our building. We secured AVID certification based on our FALL submission of evidence, too! If you are interested in supporting AVID, we are looking for volunteers to complete BINDER CHECKS in our 3rd-5th grade classrooms on January 23 from 8:30am-9:30am! Students will have their binders ready for our visitors to check using a rubric! Please contact Dr. Barber at kbarber@richland2.org if you are willing to help with these very important BINDER CHECKS to encourage organization!
And we aren't done yet!
Our Montessori program is going for National Magnet Certification! With the evidence they have collected, I am confident they will achieve this WIG!
And, DRUMROLL, our Lighthouse visit has been determined and we will have two reviewers visit our school on April 23! We are so ready to show all of the great ways we are developing leaders at Pontiac!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW - JANUARY 31
We hope to see you here at Pontiac on January 31 beginning at 6pm!
