The RED RED Reveille
Your MMS Newsletter - 10/20/17
A Message from Miller
What a great trio of students pictured above. These 8th graders have Modeled Excellence and integrity since their first day on this campus two years ago. Grace, Sydney and Ashton represent themselves, their families, our school, and this community so well and we were elated to recognize them at the last school board meeting. And fortunately, they are not the only students Modeling Excellence - they have numerous of classmates doing the same thing. Our students makes MISD distinct - we should all be so proud.
There are a couple of new items in the newsletter that I want to point your attention to. Math has revised their tutoring schedule so that students have more opportunities to meet with their classroom teacher. Please check out that PDF attachment below. Also, all the Band newsletters have been added and you can find those just below the Grade Level Newsletter. Please stay on top of UIL Eligibility dates with the PDF document towards the end of the newsletter. And finally, please take a look at a wonderful charity organization that has been created right here in our community to serve those in need - Feed the Need. I know there is a lot of scrolling required to view the entire newsletter, but there is so much information and things going on at MMS, and I want to make sure we make all of it available to you. The newsletter is one way that we try to do this.
It has been great to see many of you at MMS activities, and I hope to visit with you at future events. Your students are doing wonderful things at our campus each day and their teachers are working hard to maximize their potential. Have a wonderful weekend and Go Cards!

Safety Scoop from Mr. Eckert
It's been a fast and furious start to the school year. The students have been working hard in their classes and excelling in extra-curricular activities. One of the most important and often times overlooked factors in determining a student's success in school is whether or not the student feels safe at school. Please talk to your children about their school day and how they feel about their classes, interactions with peers, transitioning between classes, riding the bus, etc... As always, if you feel like something needs to be communicated to the school, please reach out so we can partner with you and your family to solve any concerns. In addition to talking to your child about school, take opportunities to remind them about appropriate internet and cell phone usage. Cell phones with social media access may be the biggest factor in creating tension and social emotional stress with students at the secondary level. Have conversations with your child on how to handle conflict appropriately and remind them that they can always report situations to our counselor, Mrs. Thompson, or myself and we will do our due diligence in investigating the situation. We want all of the students of MMS to feel safe and valued every time they step foot on this great campus. If there is ever anything we can do, please let us know. Have a great weekend and go Cards!
