All-Region Band Students

A Message from Miller

Cardinal Parents:

What a year 2107 has been at MMS and our entire community. When I reflect back on the year I am so thankful to be part of a district, community and campus that is unified and supportive of our students and their successes. One can simply glance back the past couple of weeks at MMS to get a good idea how "we roll" in Melissa, and while so much focus has been on the unbelievable run of the Varsity Football team (as well it should be), the young Cardinals at MMS have also been doing some great things.

Just recently, 39 MMS band students made All-Region. That is the most in the history of our campus. Also in Fine Arts our One Act Play cast and crew took home 2nd Place at district and four of our young thespians were awarded superlatives. In Athletics, we have already secured three district championships: Boy's XC; 7th Grade A Team VB; and 8th Grade B Team VB. On campus, our journalism students churn out stellar editions of the MMS Times newsletter, Art students continue to amaze us with their projects, the Cheerleaders, Kindess Club, NJHS and STUCO are busy improving the culture of our campus and community. All of our students are working hard and staying focused on their academic responsibilities - we had over 400 students on the Honor Roll for the first grading cycle.

None of the above could take place without the parental support and collaboration that MMS receives. I am so grateful for that and I look forward to watching the Cardinals soar in 2018. I hope to see you soon - Go Cards!

Safety Scoop from Mr. Eckert

Cardinal Nation,

It's been a fast and furious start to the school year. The students have been working hard in their classes and excelling in extra-curricular activities. One of the most important and often times overlooked factors in determining a student's success in school is whether or not the student feels safe at school. Please talk to your children about their school day and how they feel about their classes, interactions with peers, transitioning between classes, riding the bus, etc... As always, if you feel like something needs to be communicated to the school, please reach out so we can partner with you and your family to solve any concerns. In addition to talking to your child about school, take opportunities to remind them about appropriate internet and cell phone usage. Cell phones with social media access may be the biggest factor in creating tension and social emotional stress with students at the secondary level. Have conversations with your child on how to handle conflict appropriately and remind them that they can always report situations to our counselor, Mrs. Thompson, or myself and we will do our due diligence in investigating the situation. We want all of the students of MMS to feel safe and valued every time they step foot on this great campus. If there is ever anything we can do, please let us know. Have a great weekend and go Cards!
