Crockett Cougar Chatter
November 2023
King's Kickstart
Happy November, Cougars!
October was a month filled with tons of JOY! I had so much fun playing Loteria, and seeing our community come together for an evening of food and games at the first Crockett Fall Festival. I look forward to seeing these events continue to grow for years to come. Our artists were featured at a beautiful show at Jo’s Coffee, and I saw impressive performances at pep rallies and Dia De Los Muertos from guitar, mariachi, choir, TexAnns, cheer, and the (new!) Ballet Folklorico. I also want to extend a huge congratulations to volleyball, tennis, football, cross country, and band for advancing to the next round in their respective competitions!
October was also the month that I had the honor of officially accepting the role of Principal of Crockett Early College High School. This has been a dream come true for me, and I can not express enough gratitude for the opportunity to continue to serve this wonderful community that I have called home for the past 14 years. I appreciate all of the kind words and support from caregivers, students, and staff, and promise to work as hard as I can so that everyone in our community feels joy, belonging, and is prepared to succeed in college, career, and life. I hope to see you all at “Pizza with the Principal” on Thursday November 9th at 5:15 in the Crockett Library! (Please RSVP here)
This month I am looking forward to the start of basketball and wrestling season, and the Crockett Theatre production of Little Shop of Horrors! November is also a short, but very important month for academics. With less than 6 weeks left in the semester it is critical that we all exhibit our Collective Commitment of “Timeliness” in regard to attending all classes on time, and completing school work when assigned to stay on track and earn our fall semester credits. Crockett Homework Club is now meeting Tuesday- Thursday in the library after school for academic support or attendance recovery. Please let your teachers, counselors, or administrators know what support you need to close out the semester.
Wishing you all an “Always Victorious” November,
Shana King (she/her/ella)
Principal

What is Advanced Placement and why is it important? AP tests are college-level exams on specific subjects and are administered in May upon the completion of an AP course taken at a student's high school. At many colleges and universities, a high enough score will earn the student college credit.

Donate to our New Staff Wellness Room
Last year the PTSA received a Healthy Minds grant that funded various events and resources to support the social, emotional, and mental health of families and students. Part of our plan was also to support our staff's well-being by creating a much-needed space on campus for relaxation and stress relief. Currently there isn't a room on campus that for this purpose, so we're working to create a staff-only space that is dedicated to connecting, relaxing, destressing, recharging, and rejuvenating. We want our Crockett staff to be their best selves when they interact with students, and this is one small way that we can support them to make that happen.
We're halfway done transforming the space, but we need your help. The room is painted thanks to an amazing Crockett family, and we were lucky to get some beautiful furniture items donated, but we still need some things for the space. Please consider purchasing a staff requested item from our Crockett Staff Wellness Room Amazon Wish List. It will be delivered to the school and be put in the new space! Also, please consider writing an encouraging message for staff to read when they visit the Staff Wellness Room. Thank you for supporting this project for our wonderful Crockett staff!

One Million Minutes Reading Challenge
Crockett won the "One Million Minutes Reading Challenge" for AISD high schools last year and we're looking to hold onto the title. What that means is we need all students to step up their reading habits both at school AND at home! Teachers will be reminding them to log the minutes they read in the classroom, we need families to encourage students to read at home and log their minutes using the link or QR code below. Thank you for helping your child form lifelong reading habits!
Congrats to our October Teacher of the Month, Mr. Morgan from Student Council!
