Nurse Notes
March 2019
Hello Spring!
Finally, it's just a bit warmer and daylight is staying around just a bit longer. The first day of spring is March 20 and with the warmer weather comes more outside activity. Baseball, soccer, lacrosse, track, whatever your pleasure, with outside sports comes the risk of more injuries.
Make sure you're ready.
Update your first aid kits and know the signs and symptoms of concussions in children.

5th Grade Human Growth and Development
On March 8, 5th grade will have their Human Growth and Development program. The program follows the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills requirements for the 5th grade and has been approved by the LISD school board. The presentation will consist of a brief film followed by an opportunity for students to write down questions for the nurse and/or the counselor. Boys and girls will not be in the class together.
To preview the film online, please go to www.pgschoolprograms.com. Select the tab that says "Parent" and scroll down to the "Always Changing Co-ed " video.
Boys and girls will each view the same video.
Your 5th grade student received a permission form last week to be returned before the program day. If you did not receive it, please let me know or ask your child's teacher. No student will be allowed to participate in the program without a signed permission slip.
You also may opt out of participation of this program.
Flu!
Flu season has been a little rough this year. We still are seeing individual cases and so far, the infection rate hasn't slowed down.
Flu season runs until mid April, so it's not too late to get your shot.
Stopping the flu is up to you!
Immunizations
This school year has flown by and August will be here before you know it.
Texas state law requires students attending school to be immunized against certain vaccine-preventable diseases, so I encourage you to get your child's shots before the end of summer vaccination rush and before school starts. Getting your child vaccinated protects your child's health and that of the community.
