Strategy Spotlight
It's easy to get to this point in the year and forget about some things you might have done at the beginning of the year or haven't done in awhile. When was the last time you had students:
- Write a free response
- Annotate a text
- Practice highlighting (Write Tools protocol)
- Use jot dots to write a summary
- Write and/or answer red, yellow, and green questions about a text
- Use the Last Word discussion protocol (Write Tools protocol)
- Have conversations with their peers about a text
- Practice note taking (Write Tools protocol)
- Use technology to type something they would typically do on paper pencil/handout
- Work in cooperative partnerships or groups to complete math problems (or any assignment)
I would be happy to come in and model any of these strategies/protocols or be an extra set of hands in your classroom.
Growth Mindset and Visible Learners
Those of you who have already had me come in, if you would like me to do any follow up work with your whole class or a small group of students just let me know. I could also get you in touch with other teachers who have already taken the Growth Mindset/Visible Learner concepts further with their students if you would like to hear what other teachers are doing.
Below are a couple of stories that I have come across that I believe demonstrate a growth mindset and/or some of the visible learner characteristics that you could show to your students. There are many ways you could have your students reflect after watching a video like this.
