From the Principal

This week we have been doing our winter Map testing in Math and Reading. Our students Map test three times a year. Students worked hard this week completing those assessments. Next week teachers will be making up the tests with any students that were absent this week. We use our Map assessments to determine if students need extra support in a content area or skill. We also use the data from the assessments to determine how we can challenge our students thinking as well.

Please check your child's book bag/take home folder for grade cards today. They will be sent home. Also, second grade students will have their CoGat test reports in the grade card envelope.

Have a great weekend! Enjoy the day off from school on Monday!

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching. Students will be able to decorate a Valentine box at home to bring to school to collect their Valentine cards in. If you have any extra shoe boxes or boxes of a similar size Monroe Elementary would appreciate if you could send them in for students that don't have boxes.

When you are out purchasing Valentine cards and would like to help out by purchasing an additional package of Valentine cards for students that don't have cards, we would gladly accept your help.

From The Guidance Counselor: Ms. Allen

Career Speaker Volunteers Needed:

This year, all 4th grade students at Monroe Elementary School will have the opportunity to participate in a career exploration and information program called Career Cafe. Students who choose to participate will be invited to eat lunch in a classroom while listening to speakers sharing information about a variety of career fields. If you, or someone you know, are interested in volunteering as a career speaker, please contact Allie Allen, School Counselor, at (740) 857-1711 or allenal@japioneers.org

Health Department updated Covid guidelines

Below are the updated health department guidelines.

Masks on Jonathan Alder transportation

Masks are still mandatory on Jonathan Alder busses. Please encourage your child to keep their masks to prevent needing a new mask on a daily basis. We are happy to provide masks if needed but we are giving out a lot of masks on a daily basis.

Monroe School Yearbook information

Yearbooks can be ordered online at ybpay.lifetouch.com. Monroe Elementary's Yearbook ID Code is 13563222 and the cost is $12. Online ordering is the ONLY way to order yearbooks this year. No orders can be accepted through the school. The deadline to order is March 11, 2022.

Chromebook/i-Pad Student Responsibility

Chromebook/i-Pad Student Responsibility

All Jonathan Alder schools are now equipped with one Chromebook or i-Pad per child. We hope that students handle their devices with great care; however, there are consequences for damage, loss and/or inappropriate use of their computers.

All JA schools will be following this fee schedule for damages on devices:

This fee schedule was approved by the JA Board of Education on 12/13/2021 and is supported by Board Policy that states: “users are personally responsible and liable” for use of district technology and that users are “fully liable for damage or loss” of equipment while being used by the student. (ref: 7540.03 Student Technology Acceptable Use and Safety and 7530 Lending of Board-Owned Equipment)

We encourage you to have conversations with your children regarding the resources provided, and general safety and security on the web. This is a great place to start: Common Sense Media.

Thank you for your assistance as we strive to keep the laptop computers working properly and in the hands of students.

Teacher Spotlight- Mrs. Robinson

What is your name and your position at Monroe Elementary?

Leslie Robinson, Speech-Language Pathologist

What's one thing you couldn't live without?

Exercise! It helps me maintain my physical and mental health. I try to exercise every morning before school, so I can come to school each day feeling strong and ready for the day.

What is your FAVORITE thing to do?

I love to bake: bread, cakes, cookies, cupcakes, really just about anything! I frequently try new recipes or dishes I've seen on The Great British Bake-Off. I discovered I love pavlovas!

Where is the best place you've traveled to?

My husband and I travelled to Greece for our honeymoon. We stayed in Athens and Naxos, and both were so amazing. There was such beauty and history everywhere.

Who is your biggest inspiration? Why?

My children (ages 7 and 9) inspire me to keep learning and exploring. I want to be an example for them that no matter how old they are or how much they know about something, there is always new information out there to learn and new skills to gain. They remind me to reframe things that don't go as planned as opportunities for growth as opposed to failures. I truly want them to develop grit and resilience, so I work to try to have that myself.

What is the best book you've ever read?

I'm a huge epic fantasy reader. I've read sooo many fantasy book series. The Name of the Wind was definitely my favorite. It's the first book in a yet unfinished trilogy. I can't wait until the last book is available!

What is your favorite thing about working at Monroe Elementary School?

The staff at Monroe is such a wonderful group of people who demonstrate their care and commitment to the students here every day. Everyone works so hard to help the students meet their full potential. I feel lucky to get to witness it and be a part of it.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you.

I was a dietitian before I became a speech-language pathologist. After finishing my undergraduate degree at Ohio State, I worked for Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, CA for 2 years before moving back to Ohio.
