September 8- September 11, 2015
What We're Learning Now
Math: We're learning about collecting and keeping track of data, accurately counting and keeping track of quantities up to 10, and sorting objects by color, size, and shape.
Reading: We're learning about the events in a story and how they are sequenced. We are learning how to read our friends' names.
Popcorn Word: I
Writing: We're matching sounds to letters: forming upper and lower-case letters. We are learning to write the first letter of words we do not know.
Science: We are learning about our senses and how they help us describe our environment.
Social Studies: We're learning about Grandparents' Day.
Here are some activities to do with your child to reinforce our learning at school. You do not need to turn in anything.
- Practice writing name.
- Practice using scissors.
- Look for the popcorn word "I" when reading.
- Count things around the house. Practice counting up to 20.
- Practice saying the pledges to the American and Texas flags. Remind your child to place his right hand over his heart during the pledge.
Also, remember to read at least 10-15 minutes each night with your child. Your child doesn't have to be reading - just listening to you read is enough. We want them to have the love of reading. Look for popcorn words as you read. (For a list of popcorn words, look in the Resources section of the agenda).
Please be sure to look through your child's agenda each night. Remove papers that are in the "Important Papers" section. Notes to me, make-up work, or incomplete work can be returned to me in this section as well. Homework will be in the "Homework" section.
"Finished It Friday" folders will be sent home every Friday with work that your child has completed throughout the week. Please remove the work and return the empty folder on Monday.
Coker Elementary will be celebrating Grandparents' Day on Friday, September 11th. Kindergarten's scheduled time is 1:00 - 1:30 p.m. We would love for grandparents to come hang out with us in the classroom and create a project.
If grandparents would like to take your child home after we celebrate, please make sure to write a note giving permission for them to do so.
