Banneker Principal Weekly Update

March 15 - March 19 (A-Week Specials)

Principal's Welcome Message and P2 Theme

Greetings Banneker Families,

Can you believe how much spirit these Broncos have. Last week was wear you favorite sports team spirit week and Banneker students did not disappoint. We have a few spirit weeks left this month so be on the lookout for how your child can participate. This Thursday and Friday will be crazy hair or hat day. We are looking to fill the yearbook with great spirit pictures. Make sure to order your yearbook soon! I have included more details below. I heard recently that some neighboring schools had to cancel their yearbooks due to low participation. Let's support our yearbook so that we can get it published. We have currently sold 20 but we need pre-order 75. Do you think we can sell 55 more yearbooks? I know we can. Did you know that we are already planning for next school year? If you know someone who needs to enroll at Banneker or know a family who enrolled in homeschool last year but wants to come back to Banneker next year, now is the time to preregister. Are you looking for a great gift for Mother's Day or just want a cool piece of your child's artwork memorialized? Please click the links below for information on how to buy your child's Original Works. You won't regret it. Last week’s Positivity Project theme was Social Intelligence. This week's Positivity Project theme is the Love of Learning. Love of learning means that you master new skills and topics on your own or in school. Those with a love of learning are intrinsically motivated and engaged in a topic regardless of achieving an external standard. I hope we have created an environment where students love to learn at Banneker. Are you enjoying the "Best of Banneker" articles? This week we are highlighting Ms. Wilt. Let's have a great week together.

The Best of Banneker- Keena Wilt

Greetings Banneker family! My name is Ms. Wilt and this is my 4th year at Banneker teaching 4th grade! I love 4th graders! They are learning how to become contributing citizens of the school and preparing to enter the next level in their education! I grew up in Charles Town, WV and earned my masters degree at West Virginia University! Let's gooooo Mountaineers!! Children make the world a better place and I wanted to be part of instilling in them the love of learning as well as teaching them that learning can always be fun and exciting! I currently live in Charles Town, WV with my fiance and our two sons! My oldest son is 13 and youngest is 12! We are a huge sports family and enjoy watching our boys play basketball and football! Their sports accomplishments have taken us to many new places and we love every new adventure that comes our way! Our family loves just being together! You can catch us having a dance party on Friday night or going for a run on Saturday morning! We also enjoy camping and fishing in the summer and vacationing at the beach or lake! One interesting fact about me is that I used to play the drums for my church band! I love music and would love to get back to learning and playing more in the future! Banneker is a small school with a BIG heart! I love the family oriented community that Banneker provides! I hope all students know how much they are loved and supported by all who work together to give them the best education possible!!

The Best of Banneker-Meghan Sparrow

My name is Meghan Sparrow. I am a special education teacher at Banneker and this is my third year. I work with first, third, and fifth grade this year. I grew up in Ashburn. I attended George Mason University for undergrad and Shenandoah University for grad school. I went into education because I love working with kids. I currently live in a townhouse in Stephenson. I don't have kids of my own yet, but I'm lucky to live right down the street from my sister's family including my niece and nephews. I enjoy cooking, hanging out with friends and family, and watching TV/movies. Fun fact: I was born in South Africa. I love that Banneker is always filled with smiling faces and I hope that Banneker students always carry that smile with them.
