From the Principal

Hello Graham Family,

I hope you and your family are doing well and enjoying the nice weather we are having this week!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered at the Fun Fair last Saturday- we could not have done it without you! It was a huge success and the children seemed to really enjoy themselves.

I have noticed an improvement in students leaving school early. I appreciate your support and I want to thank you for your help in this matter.

Thank you again for your patience and grace with our new weapons detector as you enter the building. The first few weeks have gone smoothly and I appreciate everyones positivity.

I hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!

HELPFUL TIPS FOR AWESOME ATTENDANCE:

  • Remind your child that school is their first and most important job! Tardies, late arrivals, and early release times matter!

  • Communicate the importance of regular school attendance to your child so they are hearing the same thing we are saying at school.

We have many students who have been picked up early on multiple occasions. Important learning, including many intervention times, occur the last hour of school. Please be aware that when a child is picked up before 2:40 pm, he/she is considered absent for the afternoon. Any time a student is picked up between 2:40 pm and dismissal, it is considered an early withdrawal.

We are taking attendance very seriously because every minute missed, is a missed opportunity to learn.

Attendance Standards

8:33 am-9:30 am - Tardy

9:31am-11:45 am - Absent in AM

11:46am-2:40 pm - Absent in PM

2:41 pm-3:39 pm - Early Withdrawal

ALL LIBRARY BOOKS DUE!

All library books are due back to the library by June 1st or you will be charged for the missing book.

Thank you,

Mrs. Cuthbertson

Student IDs for Breakfast

If your student is getting breakfast, they will need to show their student ID. Please send them to school with their ID each day. If you would like a lanyard for their ID, please let their teacher know and we will send one home.

IMPORTANT PROCEDURES

Students arriving after the start of school at 8:32am MUST be signed in in the office by an adult.

TK and Kindergarten caregivers MUST pick up their student at the main entrance.

Half day dismissal is at 11:45am and early release dismissal is at 1:35pm.

Student Absences

If your child will be absent, please call the Graham Attendance Line at (248) 537-6810. The line is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week. If your child is absent due to a medical appointment or illness, a doctor's note helps to excuse your child's absence.

Medication/Illness

Medication must be kept in the office. Students must have documentation signed by a doctor on file in order for medication to be administered at school. Over the counter medication cannot be administered to students without a note from a doctor as well.

If your child is sick (fever, vomiting, covid-symptoms), please do not send them to school. We diligently try to prevent the spread of illness. If your child goes home from school sick with a fever (100+), they must be fever-free without fever-reducing medicine for 24 hours before returning to school. This standard is set by the Oakland County Health department.

If your student tests positive for Covid, please contact our Health Department Nurse Lourdes Lopez at 947-235-1067 for further guidance.

Substitute Teachers Needed!

The Avondale School District is looking for teacher substitutes. The State of Michigan requires candidates to have 60 College Credits. All substitute permits require that an individual has completed at least 60 semester hours of satisfactory credit (defined as a grade of 'C' or higher) combined from one or more regionally accredited colleges or universities. Please apply at EduStaff.org. The daily pay rate is $120.00 and district substitutes earn a daily pay rate of $150.00. Please reach out to AnnaMaria Wyman at AnnaMaria.Wyman@ Avondaleschools.org if you have any questions.
