St. Stan Star

May 15, 2018

From the Principal's desk

Be strong and take heart, all who hope in the Lord. Psalm 31:25

This is a special edition of the STAR.

Field Day was an awesome day!!! Many thanks to the organizers: Cindy Markway, Crystal Miller, Tiffany Jaegers, and Melissa Wansing…our wonderful, energetic Home and School officers. Also many thanks to those who showed up to help and run games….we truly have the BEST parents! Many thanks to the fire department and Cole County sheriff’s department, and the JC SWAT team. How impressive! And God blessed us with warm, but dry weather…thank you, God! I would guess there are some very tired children (and adults) at home this evening.

  • May 16th, the last day of school.

  • Students are expected to wear their school uniform.

  • Mass at 8:00 a.m. in church. Children arriving with parents who are attending mass, do not need to check in at school before going to mass.

  • Donuts and milk after Mass in the gym

  • CELEBRATION OF HOPE. We will finalize our activity for Ark of Hope. Each class will share about what they learned this year. This might be done in song, dance, poetry, video, or narrative; each class is planning their own 5 minute presentation.

  • Class promotion. Report cards will be available for parents to pick up after the program.

  • Dismissal. The program is expected to be concluded by 11:00, which is our dismissal time. The buses will run at that time as well. There is no After School Care program, so be prepared for the car line to be very active.

Congratulations to all our archers and their coaches. Thank you, Brian Herrbold, for the report below. Thank you, archers, for bringing honor and glory to our little school!

Classes resume on Aug. 14 with a full day of school. Open House is scheduled for Aug. 12, 11:30 – 1:30, (following 10:30 a.m. Mass). The St. Stanislaus Raiders Archery Middle School Team competed at the NASP National Tournament this past weekend in Louisville, KY.

The team scored very well at both the Bullseye and 3D tournaments. They feel short of bringing home a trophy, however, partly due to some untimely equipment problems during the shoot with 2 of our top shooters.

Despite that adversity, the depth of the great shooters on our team really showed through as they placed in the top 10 in the nation in the 3D shoot ranking 9th out of all of the MS teams in the country. In the Bullseye shoot they placed 14th in the country out of the 255 MS teams that went to nationals this year. There were over 14,100 shooters at the tournament this year.

This is an incredible accomplishment for our small school and something that will be difficult to top.

There were some school records set at the tournament as well. The Bullseye team score of 3347 set a new school record. The team was led by Wyatt Basinger who set a new MS boys Bullseye record with a score of 289. Alyssa Gipe set a new MS girls 3D record with a score of 283. Bridger Markway set a new ES 3D boys record with a score of 277.

The 3D shoot had a number of personal bests as well, but I haven't had time to go through those stats.

We are graduating a large 8th grade class this year that I have had the pleasure of coaching since they started. They are an awesome group of kids and are going to be very missed. I am very proud to have had the privilege of coaching this group and being a part of all of their accomplishments:

3rd Place tie NASP World 3D ES team 2015

1st Place MONASP State 3D MS Team 2018

4th Place MONASP State Bullseye 2018

I wish them all the best in HS I hope they continue with archery in some form in the future.

Needless to say this will be a difficult group to replace. We do have a very strong group of younger shooters however and are looking to add more to the team. If your child is interested in shooting archery for St. Stan next year (grades 4 to 8) please contact Coach Herrbold at or call 291-7604.

God Bless,

Coach Herrbold
