News for April 2017

Where Does National PTA Stand on Public School Choice and Public Charter Schools?

National PTA believes that no one educational program is best for all children. Public school personnel and parents must address the different ways that children learn and how public school systems can provide the best education for all children.

Furthermore, National PTA acknowledges public charter schools as one of many avenues to improving student achievement. National PTA supports public charter schools provided the authorizing bodies and schools reflect the positions and principles of National PTA in charters granted and implemented.

FHS Combines workshop and PTA meeting

FHS PTSA decided to shake things up at their March PTSA Meeting by trying a shortened format for the business portion of the meeting, followed by a workshop - focused on Stress Relief and Pampering.

Guest presentations were offered by Mary Kay and Young Living Essential Oils.

Attendees were pampered with a Mary Kay Satin Hands treatment, and information from the Young Living Oils company.

If you'd like more information on the workshop, or contact information for any of the presentations, please contact FHS PTSA President, Ny Derry at nyderry40@gmail.com

Next month's workshop will include a presentation from the Suicide Prevention Network - contact Ny if you'd like to attend and save a seat!

It's YMAD Time!

Please note the YMAD Spring Celebration date has been changed to Tues. April 25, 2016 at Franklin High School 6:00 - 8:00 pm.

Youth Making a Difference is a program that encourages and recognizes volunteer efforts by K-12 students. Some students visit senior citizens, help collect money for the Livonia Goodfellows, or rake leaves at their schools. Other activities include school or community projects. Livonia PTSA Council recognizes the efforts of these students at the annual Youth Making a Difference celebration.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SERVE AT THE PTSA COUNCIL LEVEL?

Serving on the Executive Board requires good communication and organizational skills, a willingness to coordinate the business and activities of the association, cooperation with all members, the ability to offer leadership services when called upon, and the desire to make the schools a welcoming place where all students may enjoy the benefits of PTA/PTSA.

Committee Members may serve at the Council level without being voted on as formal members. This is a good way to try out Council and become familiar with our work.

Nominations season is upon us! If you would like to apply for a position on Council, you can find an application on our website, under the "Resources" tab. Scroll down to "Other forms and documents"

PTA Teacher Appreciation Week 2017

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 8-12, 2017. We can’t wait to #ThankATeacher with you!

This year’s theme is “Teachers Deliver.” And they do! Teachers deliver so much to our students—inspiration, motivation and, ultimately, their futures. From May 8-12, 2017, we would like to celebrate teachers and deliver our thanks and gratitude to them.

Teachers change the lives of millions of children every day, and their work and impact extends far beyond the boundaries of the classroom. Join us during PTA Teacher Appreciation Week to #ThankATeacher for all that they deliver to our nation’s children.
