PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
As we conclude 2020, and break for the winter holiday, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all who help make Brookdale an amazing place to be. We are a community with many gifts and talents, which we share daily with one another and most important, our students. From the classroom, to your living room and all points in-between, our collective efforts to raise the whole child are filled with passion, commitment and a willingness to make decisions that may be hard in the present, but will have a positive and lasting influence in the future for all.
Thank you for ALL you do each and every day for your children!
I hope you enjoy the winter break, even if it is not the norm!

REPORT CARDS
Last week, Mrs. Holman and Mrs. Ferguson hosted a couple of report card informational meetings. Below are links to the Power Point and recorded session.
FIRST TRIMESTER ATTENDANCE WINNER
The first trimester ended on Wednesday, December 2. We would like to recognize the 76 students who had perfect attendance - ON TIME, EVERY DAY, READY TO LEARN. We would also like to recognize the 159 students with good attendance (3 absences or less.)
Congratulations to Eli Atualevao-Ioane, whose name was drawn for a Walmart Gift card for perfect attendance for the first trimester.
BROOKDALE FOOD DRIVE
We will host our annual Food Drive through Dec. 16! Families are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to the school for drop-off. If the food has been in your cupboards for a while, please check the "use by" date on the donated items. Naturally, the food bank will not give out food that is past the expiration date. Donations can be dropped off at the school anytime between 8:30 - 3:30 daily. Thank you for helping families in need.
ZOOM
I’m sure by now, you have heard that the district is transitioning from Big Blue Button to Zoom as our video conferencing platform. Canvas will continue to be the Learning Management System, but we will move to Zoom as the conferencing platform. This move is in an effort to reduce the challenges of audio & video quality that were experienced with Big Blue Button.
The transition is set to begin today, and it is expected that all classes will move to Zoom by Jan. 4. We realize that consistency is so important for our students and while you may see a slightly different video format, it is our hope that the change will lead to better audio and video quality and fewer learning disruptions.
If you have questions about the product, need help navigating Zoom or have concerns about your child utilizing this platform click on the Student Guide for Zoom button below or go to www.fpschools.org/zoom.

EARLY LEARNING CENTER ~ HEAD START AND ECEAP
Head Start and ECEAP are federally- and state-funded free preschool programs for qualifying families. The Hewins Early Learning Center enrolls over 200 children in these programs each year. The ELC offers AM and PM classes to families residing in the Franklin Pierce School District. Children must be 3 or 4 years old by August 31st of the school year. For children younger than 3 years old, Early Head Start home visiting may be an option. If you have questions about the program or need assistance with enrollment please contact Melissa McPheeters, Family Support ERSEA Specialist at (253) 298-4675.
(It is important to know that COVID has created many circumstances that a family that didn’t usually meet criteria, now does. This includes a sudden change in income level, homelessness, kinship care, etc…)
