How perfect that we celebrate the life of MLK just at the start of the new year -- it offers the opportunity to make resolutions about the steps we each can take to foster a more just world.
Attendance--What is the Difference Between Excused and Unexcused?
Excused absences: personal illness, family funerals, medical appointments, court appointments with a subpoena, church/religious trips with documentation, and family emergencies with explanation.
Unexcused absences: family trips, car trouble/flat tire, missing the bus/ride, oversleeping,, caring for a sibling, busy traffic, court appointments for traffic violations, notes without all pertinent information, and of course, a confirmed truancy.
The accrual of multiple unexcused absences will result in a parent conference, a warning notice, and possibly, legal action. In addition, juniors and seniors will not qualify for off campus lunch if they have any unexcused absences.
Health vs. EADN (Excused Absences - Non-Health -Doctor Note): Health absences do not count against a student's attendance. However, a student must be on campus for part of the school day and bring in a doctor's note. A doctor's note counts as an excused absence if a student is absent for the whole school day.
Attendance Recovery
In order to meet the TEA attendance requirements (90% Rule)for the first semester, students cannot have more than 4 absences for any class. If you have more than four absences, you will need to go tot attendance recovery. We will be begin attendance recovery on October 17th. It will be every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Each attendance recovery session will help you regain one absence (one class period). Attendance Recovery will be in Mrs. Snow's room (160) on Monday and Wednesday and in Mrs. Anguiano's room (142) on Tuesday and Thursday. You must be on time and stay the entire time in order to receive the credit. Students are not able to bank hours ahead of time. Only students who are over the allowable amount of absences are permitted to stay in attendance recovery.
