September 21, 2022 - NEWSLETTER
Hola familias de Woodcrest,
The pace of the school year is definitely starting to pick up! Next week we will have our Fun Run kickoff for students. This is one of the PTO’s main fundraisers each year. Please watch for a fundraising envelope in your child’s backpack on Monday. The PTO has also set up a link where Woodcrest gear can be ordered. See more information in the newsletter.
We are also in the planning process for our fall curriculum experience and conferences. Stay tuned for more information on those upcoming events and opportunities for you to engage and connect. We are excited to get our fall events up and running!
This week, students who took the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) last spring will receive their results at home. The Minnesota Department of Education sends us the spring results in late August each year. The timing can be confusing. If you have questions, please reach out.
I’ve had a fun start to my week. I’ve begun to make the rounds to get into each classroom to do a short read aloud with students. I have made it into about half of the classrooms so far. It has been wonderful to interact with our students while reading them a story!
I hope your week is going well, too!
Jaime
Update immunizations by November 1
Minnesota School Immunization Laws currently require all students enrolled in school to be immunized against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTap/Td/Tdap), polio, measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), Hepatitis B, and varicella (chickenpox). One dose of the meningococcal (MCV) vaccine is due in 7th grade, and a booster dose at age 16.
The only exceptions are:
- A student has had the chickenpox virus
- Medical exemption with paperwork from your provider
- Conscientious exemption with notarized exemption form
Students whose immunizations are not up to date by Tuesday, November 1 will be excluded from school until their immunizations are current.
If you have questions about whether or not your child is due for immunizations, please contact their healthcare provider. If you are interested in access to low-income options for vaccines, please reach out to Anoka County Public Health at 763-324-4240.
Nutrition Services Form: Purchase of à la carte items
During lunch, students have the option to purchase à la carte items (second milk, extra entree, bottled water, etc). If you do not want your student to purchase à la carte items, please complete this form and email it to jswene@district16.org.
Parent and guardian access to learning: How to log in to Seesaw and Schoology
Spring Lake Park Schools students use Seesaw (grades K-2) and Schoology (grades 3-12) for their learning. Parents/guardians can also access these platforms and follow along with what their children are learning in school. Once a parent or guardian logs on, if you're not sure what you're looking at or where to find something, ask your student to give you a tour!
Seesaw - grades K-2
Seesaw is a learning system intended to give our students in grades K-2 a place to share learning and growth. Seesaw is an easy-to-use platform for our younger learners and provides parents with access and insight into what their children are learning at school.
Parents:
- If you are logging into Seesaw from a computer, use this link.
- If you are logging into Seesaw from the app, download the Seesaw app and follow the instructions on the invite from your child's teacher. If you already had a Seesaw account you don't need to do anything, you will use the same account as you did in the past - your child's new classes will appear the next time you log in.
Students:
- Students need to have both the Clever and Seesaw app downloaded onto the Pad. Students get a QR code from their teacher, scan it in the Clever app and click on Seesaw.
Schoology - grades 3-12
Schoology is our primary learning management system for students grades 3-12. Schoology embeds course content, videos, assignments, quizzes, links and more. Parents/guardians can access Schoology and have total visibility into what their children are learning at school.
- If you are logging into Schoology from a computer, use this link. Watch this video to learn more.
- If you are logging into Schoology from the app, make sure to select Log In through your School and type in Spring Lake Park Schools. Watch this video to learn more.
- Check your parent settings and preferences for the year to receive Schoology updates. Watch this video to learn more.
Find more information on Seesaw and Schoology, parent password instructions, and so many more tips and video tutorials about our technology tools on the Technology Tools, Resources and Log Ins page.

Award winning, again
For the 16th year running, Spring Lake Park Schools has received the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International’s Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting award. Less than 10 percent of districts in Minnesota receive this award, which was announced and presented at the September 13 school board meeting.
“We don’t take this recognition for granted. It is meaningful each year because it acknowledges our district’s commitment to solid financial stewardship,” says Superintendent Jeff Ronneberg. “I hope it instills pride and confidence in how we manage our financial resources at a time when school districts are under significant financial strain.”

Aprendiendo cosas nuevas
Since school began, all students here at WCSI have been learning about school-wide norms and expectations. This past Friday, some classes completed this task and were able to celebrate by having a frozen treat that PTO provided for them. As more and more classes complete this task, they too, will be given some frozen treats to enjoy. We are so proud of all the learning that has taken place, felicidades amigos!
