- iChallenge: Create an iMovie trailer for this book
'One Best Thing' books are....
- Created by Apple Distinguished Educators (ADEs)
- Demonstrate the use of Apple technologies to transform teaching and learning
- A way to share a unit, a lesson, or a best practice
- Designed to help another educator implement a successful practice
- Professional learning ideas championed by an educator that others can look to for Ideas and tips on how to replicate
The What, Why and How of Educators Hive
What: A great place to get fresh ideas and not reinvent the wheel.
Why: This catalog of teacher created templates was created to meet individual needs. There are tons of templates available right now - all you have to do it save them and modify them to make your own. It also makes it a lot easier to start a SMORE!
How: If you have an Educator account with SMORE, check out the great templates on The 'educator hive' tab next to "your flyers'.
TOBY'S TECH TIP:
Tobytech's Monthly Website Recommendation
NOREDINK.COM.
NoRedInk is an excellent tool for practicing grammar. Students often find grammar boring and rudimentary. NoRedInk has students fill out an interest survey and the site then tailors the grammar exercises to include their interests. Teachers can create lessons for entire classes or individual students. NoRedInk is a great option for the teacher who is hosting writer’s workshops with individual students while other students complete a variety of other tasks in stations, like think ‘centers’ from elementary school. NoRedInk is a website but is also available as an Edmodo App.
Tobytech's Three-Free App Recommendations
OUTLOOK
The Outlook app delivers the best email experience for your mobile device. Outlook for iOS and Android lets you manage Outlook.com and other email accounts, calendars, contacts, and files without switching between different apps.
TWEEN TRIBUNE
SmithsonianTTJunior allows students in elementary school to read daily news articles written to Grade levels K-4, post comments about the stories they read and take quizzes on the articles. Teachers moderate all comments before the comments are posted. SmithsonianTTJunior helps to promote an informed, literate and civil electorate with the support of the Smithsonian Institution, a trust instrumentality of the United States established by an Act of Congress in 1846 “for the increase and diffusion of knowledge.
KINDLE
Don't have a Kindle, but have an iPad instead? The Kindle app is one of the best to have when wanting to read or listen to books, magazines and newspapers on your device. When it comes to reading apps, we're looking for a lot: a pleasant reading experience; benefits like a built-in dictionary, easy and fast navigation and search, and customization options; and a store with a massive ebook selection, which is easy to browse from an iOS device. Amazon's Kindle app shines on all those fronts.
SAMR EVIDENCE
NEXT STEPS FOR VANGUARDS: WHAT GOOD LOOKS LIKE
- Continue to work on your Apple Teacher plan with your Principal.
- Share what you learned from your "One Best Thing" iBook with your instructional team. Find and plan the best way to share with your teachers.
- Meet with your instructional team at least once a month at a designated time and place to summarize and share this SMORE and professional development and how you differentiate this information to your teachers. The instructional team consists of you, your Principal, Lead Literacy Teacher, Lead Tech Teacher and Assistant Principal.
- Use Toby as your "go to" Education Manager for Technology. If I don't know the answer, I will direct you appropriately. Use FaceTime as much as you can. My cell is 215-680-0123. I am also here to coach you and help you plan your professional development sessions.
OUR NEXT SESSION WILL RESUME ON 2/5/17
