Notre Dame Catholic Primary School
Foundations for Life Long Learning 2 April
In these very unusual times, with our world having been thrown into such turmoil, it is easy to lose track of time and forget the events that we usually celebrate. In any normal year we would be preparing to celebrate Palm Sunday this weekend and be looking forward to the school holidays which were to commence on Good Friday, only a week away. With our churches closed and our community spread far and wide there is certainly nothing “normal” about this year.
Whilst we have been confronted with many challenges it is important to remember the significance of this time of year and to celebrate the great gift that we have been given through the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Easter is traditionally a special time for families to gather together. This year should be no different. Whilst we may not be able to physically be in each other’s company the amazing technology that we have today allows us to connect electronically through a vast range of applications. As we enter this most sacred time in the Liturgical year let’s, as much as possible, put COVID-19 to one side and focus on what we would in any other year, Holy Week and Easter.
HOW IS IT GOING?
Well that’s one week down and I hope you’re managing to retain your sanity. I have seen the work that many parents are doing with their children on their posts to Seesaw and Teams and have been really impressed with the range of creative ideas being used. The staff have been working hard to provide engaging activities for the children but, without the support and input from the parents, this could very easily become busy work. We are so appreciative of the efforts of all of you and look forward to continuing to work with you and support you through this ordeal. It would be a lovely gesture if parents were to post messages of gratitude and support for the Teachers’ efforts on our school’s Facebook page. We will post a message this evening to which you may reply.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Before most of our children finished at the end of last week each of the classes prepared a Station of the Cross that has been displayed outside their classroom. The staff will be videoing our journey as we follow the Stations and forwarding it to each of the families over the next five days. Perhaps you may like to join with us as we recite the Hail Mary at each of the Stations.
SCHOOL OPEN
Our school will remain open next week for the children of essential services workers only. As we are moving towards staff mainly working from home, there will only be sufficient staff, two Teachers and two Education Assistants, to supervise the children. Two members of the Leadership Team will be in attendance each day. Online lessons will not be offered next week but will recommence in Term Two from Tuesday 28 April.
FUTURE COMMUNICATION
The school newsletter, in its current format, will not be forwarded to families for the time being. In its place will be a brief weekly update which we hope to publish each Monday. Any particularly important information will be forwarded to families via SEQTA email should this be necessary.
SCHOOL BOARD
Please take the time to read the letter below from Adele Fuge (Chair) on behalf of the School Board.

Packed with Goodness workshop CANCELLED:
Due to the growing concern surrounding the spread of COVID-19, the latest advice from the Department of Education is to cancel all non-essential meetings and gatherings within schools. For this reason the Packed with Goodness team will be cancelling all sessions scheduled for the remainder of Term 1 and all of Term 2 2020. The P&F will look to rescheduling this later in the year. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Picture Products are back for 2020!!!
The P&F will be officially launching this in term 2, but wanted to give students the chance to complete their art work over the school holidays. Please see below for more information. Templates will be available in the front office for the next 2 weeks, or can be downloaded: https://www.pictureproducts.com.au/drawing/
What is it:
Would you like to turn your child’s treasured memories into durable, high-quality melamine Pictureplates that will last a lifetime? Children love eating off their very own Pictureplates, and as the years go by and they grow up and have their own families, their Pictureplates will bring back memories of those happy childhood years.
There are also other products available to order including a melamine Pictureclock or MDF Small Clock, plastic and ceramic mugs, water bottles and calendars.
Your child can use photos, markers, hand and footprints and paints to create their artworks, and you can order as many copies of your products as you’d like, so it’s a fantastic gift idea for grandparents and family members, just in time for Christmas.
How does it work:
Children complete their drawings on the templates provided and return them to the school office with their order form and money. The orders will be collated and sent to the manufacturer and will arrive back at the school approximately 8 weeks later, just in time for Father’s Day. Just choose which products you’d like to order, and how many of each product you would like.
Templates for the picture plates, picture clocks, picture mugs, calendars and water bottles only are available from the school’s Administration office and can also be downloaded from https://www.pictureproducts.com.au/drawing/. Instructions are printed on the templates.
Templates are also available online for addition products including iPhone and Samsung phone cases, mouse pads and tablemats.
Cost:
Pictureplate $25 Pictureclock $30 Ceramic Mug $20
Plastic Mug $20 Water bottle 400ml $20 Calendar $15
Small Clock $25 Water bottle 600ml $25 Mousepad $20
Phone covers $20 Tablemat $20
