Leader in Me - BE PROACTIVE
At Horizon Elementary, we are learning to find the leader in each of us!
September's Habit #1 – Be Proactive
You are in charge!
I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.
Part of being proactive is stopping to think before we act. Sometimes, we react to a situation immediately, without taking time to think about the results of our actions. Activities at home to help reinforce Habit 1 - Be Proactive might include role-playing different situations with your child that will provide them the opportunity to think before they act.
Some examples might include:
1. (In this roleplay, you should be your child’s sibling.) Tell your child that you broke his or her favorite toy by accident. Tell him or her that you don’t think it’s a very big deal because he or she has many toys.
2. (In this roleplay, you should play the part of your child and your child should play the part of you). Tell your child that you are “sooooo bored” and there is nothing fun to do. Complain that no one wants to play and that he or she (as the parent) needs to amuse you.
Make sure to have a positive conversation on how they make choices and thinking before they act.
Independence Day for Independent Students
This is also a RED, WHITE, AND/OR BLUE DRESS UP DAY!
Of course, we always welcome parents on our campus. Jerome School District is committed to the safety of our students. Independence Day will run concurrently with some newly added district security measures. As a district, each school will require all adults on the school campus (inside and outside of the building) to check in to the main office with an official photo ID. The ID must include a picture of the adult checking in and their birthday (drivers license, passports, government issued ID's, etc...). If you choose to join your child on the playground, please check in with your ID at the office prior to entering the playground.
Another security measure added at Horizon is our safety vestibule which should be complete by the end of the month. While we know it will take a little extra time to check into the office, we hope you will see the value of the added security it provides.
On another note, if you would like to visit with a teacher, we encourage setting up a meeting with a teacher to ensure they can give you full focus and keep your student's information confidential.
Meet Your Teacher
Our staff enjoyed meeting many of you at Meet Your Teacher. We believe in working together with families as part of your student’s educational team while celebrating accomplishments along the way. There are many other fun events planned for the school year including Family Literacy Night (Sept 19), STEM Night, along with many others.

Bus Lane
AM Kindergarten student pickup may use the bus lane.
Daily Attendance
Attendance is a district focus and prompt and regular attendance is important at all times. When your child must be absent for any reason, please call the office at 208-324-4841 by 9:00 a.m. every day of non-attendance, giving the exact reason for the absence. You can also email Hilda Limon at hilda.limon@jeromeschools.org.
Any child arriving after 8:25 a.m. must stop in the office and pick up a tardy slip. This is disruptive to your child and the entire class. Let's set good habits early in the school year to arrive on time. Thank you for your help getting students to school on time.
