Welcome Back!

Dear GISD Families,

The 2018-2019 school year is off to a great start at Gordon ISD. Staff members have been hard at work preparing and planning for the start of school and the arrival of our students. We are looking forward to working together as a team to provide your child the very best educational experience. Our newsletter is one way in which we maintain communication between school and home. It contains a variety of academic updates, important dates, and items of interest. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

The Longhorn Association

The Longhorn Association is a new organization on campus that we want every parent to join! This is comprised of a group of parents, grandparents, teachers, and community members that share a common goal to support the great kids of Gordon ISD. Their mission is to support both academic and athletic organizations on campus and help the district in any way possible. They are currently seeking additional memberships of elementary parents (and all parents for that matter) that are willing to volunteer in fundraising efforts, working concession stands, and other volunteer work! We want everyone to be ALL IN! Please contact Mindy Scrivner if you have any questions or email them at thelonghornassociation@gmail.com. Their next meeting will be held on Nov. 6th @ 6:00 PM in the school cafeteria.

Thanks to our Longhorn Association for supporting the AR reading reward program and the Student Six Weeks of the Month.

4H at Gordon ISD

4‑H is delivered by Cooperative Extension—a community of more than 100 public universities across the nation that provides experiences where young people learn by doing. Kids complete hands-on projects in areas like health, science, AGRICULTURE and citizenship, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Kids experience 4‑H in every county and parish in the country—through in-school and after-school programs, school and community clubs and 4‑H camps.

The next 4H meeting for Gordon ISD will be held on Tuesday, October 16th @ 6:00 PM. The guest speaker that night will be Mike Newton from Master Chef and he will do a cooking presentation. Please join us!

AR Rewards Program

We have many great readers here at Gordon ISD and we are all about rewarding our students each six weeks!!!

Each teacher sets individual goals for students each six weeks for AR goals based on a several assessments and each child's individual skill level. No two goals are the same because not all our students are the same.

If students meet their goal each six weeks we reward them with an AR party. At the end of the year, students who go above and beyond are rewarded with a field trip off campus and it always includes something fun. Students in grades K-8th are eligible for the trip if they earn the following points for the year:

Kinder-50 points

1st-75 points

2nd-5th: 100 points

6th-8th-150 points
