Mrs. Moore's Class Weekly Update
February 1-5, 2016
MATH
Unit 5 is all about fractions. We will start by decomposing fractions and then move onto adding fractions and mixed numbers in number stories.
LITERACY
Our literacy unit continues to focus on Tall Tales. We will be reading and studying different Tall Tales, focusing on exaggeration and figurative language. We will also be comparing and contrasting different versions of the same Tall Tale, using text and media. The goal is to write their own Tall Tale.
SCIENCE/ SOCIAL STUDIES
In Social Studies, we are still studying the Civil Rights Movement and also immigration. We have created a class time line so students can see the creation of our nation.
In Science, we started our weather unit. We will start with exploring weather instruments. We will also be keeping a weather journal charting the weather daily and looking at weather patterns.
Please encourage your child to watch the weather on TV or look at it in the newspaper. It's great for them to have exposure to weather terms!
A Note From Mrs. Moore
- We are collecting cans of icing to make "birthday bags" for the local food bank. Please consider donating a can to make someone's birthday a little bit more special! Also, if you have any extra birthday gift bags at home that you would be willing to donate, the school can use them to assembly the "birthday bags."
- The character trait of the month is Caring. Talk with your child about what it means to truly show caring towards others.
- Fun Fact: Today is the 95th day of school!
