Come have Fun with the A+ Squad

What are DOS commands?

DOS commands are used to perform simple tasks such as moving or deleting files and seeing everything on a disk. DOS commands are used on the CMD, or, the command prompt (Also Sometimes referred to as the Windows Command Line.) An example of a DOS command is "DIR Documents." This would display all the files in the Documents Folder. It's a Directory. DOS Commands are important because it provides an easier way to perform tasks that you may otherwise need a mouse or other information. It is also very easy to learn.

File Attributes

There are Four Types of File Attributes. The four types of File Attributes are: Read, Archive, System, and Hidden. Read Only allows a file to be read, but nothing can be written to the file. Archive Tells Windows Backup to backup the file. System is exactly what it says; A System file. A Hidden File will not be shown when doing a regular DIR from DOS. This pretty much just means it's invisible unless you make it appear. These File attributes basically define the type of file it is. A File does not have to have ONE attribute. It could have TWO or MORE. File Attributes are helpful because they can help someone to understand exactly what is in the file. It can also be helpful to hide important information from people if need be.

Wildcards

A wildcard character is a special character that represents one or more other characters. The most commonly used wildcard characters are the asterisk (*), which typically represents zero or more characters in a string of characters, and the question mark (?), which typically represents any one character. Wildcards are important because they can be used in place of a very specific file name. This means that anything with the same amount of characters can pop up. For example if you were to write "*.jpg", all files with the extension .jpg would show.

PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE PLAN

There are 8 main parts to a Preventative Maintenance plan to keep in Mind:

1) Update the Operating System and applications

2) Update Antivirus and other Protective Software

3) Check for Hardware problems (Called Hard Drive Error Checking)

4) Regularly backup the Hard Drive

5) Make sure to regularly defragment the Hard Drive

6) Regularly Update the Drivers

7) Regularly update the Firmware

8) Make sure to check if all Startup Programs are working properly (Use MSCONFIG)

Preventative Maintenance plan is extremely important because it helps to keep all your information secure. It also helps to prepare and possibly prevent major problems from occurring. It is pertinent to implement a Preventative Maintenance plan to keep your Computer running properly.

Keep In Mind: Many people may have slightly different Preventative Maintenance Plans compared to mine (As shown in the Picture to the Left).
