7 principles of government
Popular sovereighnty
A government in which people rule.People make their own decision.
Republicanism
The people exercise their power by voting for their political representatives.The people vote for who they want.
Federalism
A system of government in which power is divided between a central government, and smaller political units.They divide these so people can get equal powers.
Seperation of powers
Division of basic government roles into branches.No one is given all of the power.
Checks and balances
Each branch can exercise checks, or controls, over the other branches.This is to make sure the branches work together.
Limited government
Is closley related to the "rule of law".So individuals or groups cannot twist or bypass their own interests.
Individual rights
Personal liberties and privileges.People have freedom of speech and can meet peacefully and to ask the goverenment to correct a problem.
