a note from your principal
Hoover City Schools is seeing an increase in COVID positives and COVID related
quarantines among staff, students, and within the community. Jefferson and Shelby
County health department reports are showing similar trends for our area. While this
impact has yet to hit us extensively at Greystone, it has led to quite a few quarantined
students and some staff members. It also reminds us of the importance of being prepared
if the need arises.
As we enter the holiday season, we know that visiting family and travel could lead to
more similar increases. Our staff is working proactively on plans should there be a need
to quarantine individual students, classes, our school, our feeder zone or district-wide.
We hope this is not the case, but we want to be ready.
Just as we are preparing at the school level, we encourage you to have a family plan. Our
school nurse and administrative team have had to notify several families on short notice of the need to quarantine their children. We encourage you to have a supervision plan in place for your student should they need to quarantine for up to fourteen days, or should we have to switch to a remote instructional platform for any class or at any location.
We recognize the inconvenience and frustration this may cause, but we now see that our
social distancing plan is working the best it can. As you now know, we will be returning to a staggered schedule from November 30 to January 19. This will allow us to keep students 6 feet apart in class, limiting exposure and the number who need to quarantine. Our student numbers are better than most places in the state. We pledge to continue to do what we can as we work together to help keep the spread to a minimum.
Thanks for your support in keeping our school and students safe,
Dr. Stocks

The Alabama Literacy Act has many parent resources for you to access. The linked image above will take you to The Alabama Family Guide for Student Reading Success. This resource is written for families whose child is showing a deficiency in reading, however I believe it is a great resource for all families. If you are looking for some fun activities to do with your K-3rd children to help them become better readers, this is a great place to start.
