Principal's Message
I can't believe that it is already October! We are off to a great start and are in full learning mode! Students are now in a routine and are going strong!
I appreciate all the support as we focus on the success of all of our Dolphins. The home-school relationship is important to maintain. The foundation of this relationship is paramount and keeping those lines of communication open is essential.
I am a firm believer in the power of the growth mindset and approach each year with the belief that all our students are capable of learning and growth. What is a growth mindset? Simply put, it is the belief that intelligence and ability are not fixed traits or that we are born with only so much of them. Rather, with effort and perseverance, all students are capable of academic achievement.
Every day, we want to immerse our students in a growth mindset at Hairgrove. Our students will be asked to take educational risks. They will be praised for approaching the process of learning with grit and determination and they will grow in ways they never thought possible.
These messages cannot only come from the school, so I am writing this to ask for your help. How can you help? You can value growth and improvement in your home. I am asking families to be mindful of where their students start and how they progress over time. Continued progress, however incremental, is to be valued.
Here are some things you can do to extend and promote a growth mindset in your home:
- Encourage your child to take risks and tackle new challenges at school.
- Praise your child not for the ease with which he or she learns a concept but for the amount of effort put into learning it.
- Emphasize perseverance and effort in extracurricular activities. For example, “I’m proud of how much effort you put into that basketball game” instead of “I’m proud of how many points you scored in that basketball game.”
I hope you’ll commit to joining us on this growth-mindset journey. We cannot do it without parent support. Please contact the school if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to a working partnership and a successful year.
Sincerely,
Michelle Lee
Car Rider Note:
Our staff members will be outside in the morning to greet your children from 7:50 – 8:15 and will now be opening and closing your car door. At 8:15, they must go into the building to help start the instructional day. If you arrive after 8:00, you will need to park and walk your child into the building to sign them in to school. If your child needs to eat breakfast, please be sure that they arrive with enough time to eat. Breakfast is served from 7:50 – 8:15. While there may be circumstances that cause you to be in a rush in the morning, it is crucial that you stay in one lane of traffic and follow the traffic direction of our staff members. Our goal is to keep all of our students and staff members safe!
Our school day ends at 3:40. At that time, we will begin dismissal. Our staff members work as efficiently as they can to bring your child to your vehicle in the afternoon and they will be opening and closing your car door. You can help with speeding up the process of the afternoon car rider line by making sure your child knows their car rider number, having your car rider tag hanging from your rear view mirror when you enter the parking lot, and following the traffic direction of our staff members. At 4:00, all staff members will go inside and you will need to park and come into the front office to sign your child out from school. If this happens, be sure to have your ID with you. While there may be circumstances that cause you to be in a rush in the afternoon, it is crucial that you stay in one lane of traffic and follow the traffic direction of our staff members. Our goal is to keep all of our students and staff members safe!

Music Notes
Hello Hairgrove Family and Friends!
Music class is going swimmingly as Kindergarten, first and second grade explore and practice using our five voices. If your child is in one of these grades, ask them to use their singing, speaking/talking, whisper, shouting/calling, or inner voice. I bet they can do it! Inner voice is the most challenging, it’s the voice no one else can hear but yourself. When a song can be played on instruments or has motions I can watch and see if all of my students are using their inner voice by how they move.
Third, fourth and fifth grade students have been reviewing beat and rhythm. They have already done a fabulous job playing and performing with rhythm sticks! They can use their inner voices, too, although we call it “audiate”.
Important Musical Announcements:
All 3rd Grade students will be invited to perform at our 3rd Grade Music Program on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. We will need all 3rd graders there that night at 5:30 p.m. so they are ready to perform on the cafeteria stage!
4th & 5th Grade Choir is starting this month! If you signed a blue paper asking permission for your child to be a part of choir don’t forget it starts Thursday, October 6th. Students will need to be picked up in the back parking lot at 5:00 p.m. every Thursday from rehearsal.
I look forward to working with you and our students. I hope to see you soon!

ART UPDATE
Hello Hairgrove Artists and Families! Did you know that the visual arts can support success throughout your child’s education, both within and outside of school settings? As students learn to create, respond and connect to their surroundings, experiences with visual arts help them to gain skills that positively impact their school experience! A visual journal/sketchbook is a great way to express your emotions, experiment with new mediums, and create from your imagination! There is no wrong answer, just let the mark making tool do the work and see what you create!

PE NOTES
Greetings from the Gym!
Students in grades 5th-3rd are practicing and learning about lots of Football terms and positions as well as watching some great plays by professionals showing great effort and sportsmanship. Right now they are working on a competitive passing game called CROWN THE KING where every successful catch moves their team crown closer to their king. Play catch with a football as home if possible to help with throwing and catching skills. Also, give your students tasks like carrying groceries to help with upper-body strength. Primary students are working with different manipulatives for fine motor control and sportsmanship and learning exercise routines with the coaches!
As always, make sure your student has a water-bottle/thermos to keep hydrated in PE and throughout the day, and that they are wearing the correct footwear on their PE days. Thanks!
