Graduate Yelm!
Partners in Our Network
February 11, 2020
Each student will be on a path (starting in kindergarten)
to graduation, continuing education and work.
GRADUATION READINESS
As shared in a recent OSPI publication, Washington’s economy is stronger and more varied than many other parts of the country. It is driven by diverse industries like agriculture, global trade, IT, aerospace and advanced manufacturing, health care and government. The opportunities for our students to access careers that allow them to sustain themselves, their families and their communities should be boundless.
According to Washington Roundtable, Washington expects 740,000 new job openings by 2021. Where we run into a challenge is that 70% of these jobs require certificates or degrees beyond a high school diploma, but more than half (54%) of Washington’s high school graduates do not have a postsecondary credential or degree eight years after high school graduation.
Tips for Partners:
- Have you asked a senior if they have applied for a scholarship for post-secondary education?
- Encourage seniors to get in the Dollars for Scholars and Yelm Education Foundation Scholarship applications due at the end of this month.
- Do you have a job opening for students this summer? Join our Job Fair in May. Contact Teri Pablo for more information.
- Ask elementary students what character trait they are learning like "showing respect or working with others." Explain how that trait is important in your business or work place.
- Show the video below at your workplace or at home. Talk about what credentials you have.
A credential is essential. We all continue to learn and build our skills.
