Vaughan Yearbook Sale 10/21 thru 11/1!
It’s time to order your 2019 - 2020 Vaughan Yearbook! The price is $25 (personalization is additional). Limited copies may be available for purchase, but are not guaranteed.

Red Ribbon Picnic: Oct 24th!
Vaughan is hosting our annual Red Ribbon Picnic from 5-6:30 pm on Thursday, October 24th! There will be music, food, games with prizes, a bounce house, balloon animals, the Scholastic Book Fair, Kona Ice and back by popular demand, a CAKE WALK! CLICK HERE for more info.
We are asking that each grade level help support our Red Ribbon Picnic by bringing the following items to share the night of the picnic:
- Kinder & 1st & 2nd Grade: Individual Finger Desserts (No Peanuts)
- 3rd & 4th: Individual Chip Bags
- 5th & 6th: Drinks (Juice Boxes, Waters or Canned Drinks)

Book Fair Opens 10/21: Volunteers Needed!
Vaughan PTA's fall book fair will be held October 21st - 25th. We will also be open on Parent-Teacher Conference Day, 10/28 and during the Red Ribbon Picnic 10/24! Students can attend a special early shopping day when they come to our Donuts with Grownups event at 7am October 22.
We need volunteers! Can you help? Everyone who works one shift will receive 1 FREE book with the purchase of 3 books. CLICK HERE to volunteer.

Reflections Entries Due October 29th
PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the 2019-2020 theme: Look Within.

NOTE: At least one parent must be a member of the Vaughan PTA for your student to participate in Reflections.
Veterans Day Donations Needed
Vaughan fourth graders will be collecting items to send to the VA Hospital. There will be a box in the front hallway for students to put in their donations.
This year we are collecting the following items:
Board games/card games – new or gently used
Socks – new (multi-packs of white socks are great)
Fleece blankets/throws – new or gently used clean ones
Candy for Soldiers’ Angels – wrapped candy for troops, veterans, and wounded veterans in VA hospitals
Please help us fill some of the needs of our Veterans by sending a donation to school by Wednesday, November 6th. Thank you!
20th Annual Veterans Day Celebration
Vaughan will be hosting our 20th Annual Veterans Day Celebration on Monday, November 11. We will honor the men and women who have served our country. To celebrate this special occasion, we are asking Vaughan Vikings to invite any relative or special friend they have who is a Veteran (of peace-time or war-time), a relative/friend of a loved one currently serving, or a survivor of a deceased Veteran to come to our school on Monday, November 11, 2019 starting at 7:15 am.

STARS OF HONOR
As part of the Veterans Day Celebration, we will be filling the Vaughan hallways with 'Stars of Honor' to recognize our student’s family members and friends who have served or are presently serving our nation in the military.
To have a Veteran (living or deceased) honored on this wall, please CLICK HERE to complete the form by Friday, October 25th.
We’d love to fill the hallways, so please check your family tree and submit as many names as you can! You can use this form multiple times to submit names. All names submitted in the past 2 years already have a star created and will continue to be displayed each year.
Family STEAM Night at Vaughan: November 7
Thursday, November 7th, 6 - 8 pm - Vaughan cafeteria & gym
Join us for this fun family event featuring a mobile planetarium and hands-on science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities. We'll have STEM games, math games, 3D printing design, Keep Allen Beautiful, a Reflections art display, and much more!
FAMILY STEAM NIGHT - STUDENT SHOWCASE
NEW this year, we are inviting students to showcase their passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics by displaying their project at STEAM Night. For more information, and to sign up, please CLICK HERE.
Vaughan Environmental Club
On October 2nd Walk/Bike to School Day our volunteers passed out 369 pencils. Vaughan Environmental Club will have its first meeting on October 21st. We still have room for a few more students to join the club. Please email Susan Polansky if your child is interested. At the first meeting students will be working on getting Vaughan’s recycling bins redistributed as well as adding new bins purchased with grant money from the Allen Waste Water Award to classrooms, offices and workroom. Students will also set up a schedule for collecting recycling each week.Come join us!

Storybook Character Day, Oct 31st

Parent University: October 22
Allen ISD is hosting a Parent University session on vaping and substance use on October 22 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Lowery Center Auditorium. Presenting speakers include John Mark Muelman (Collin County Substance Abuse Center), Lt. Darrin Whitman (Allen Police), and Susan Hoemke (author and life coach). The event is free, but you must register. Due to the nature of the topics discussed, this program is only open to parents and AISD staff. This program is brought to you by the AISD Community Education Department and the Counseling Department.

VIP Staff Members for September
Mrs. Dreher has been an amazing support to her co-workers this year. She is patient, kind, and has a caring heart. Mrs. Dreher goes out of her way to make others feel appreciated. In addition, she goes above and beyond to support Vaughan as a whole. We are truly blessed to have her on our TEAM!
Mrs. Rothbauer helps every single person on campus...with a smile on her face! From webpages, batteries, technology repairs/reboot, lessons...any of it! She is amazing and does beyond her job every day. Cheryl, we are so lucky to have you at Vaughan!
PTA Update
Thank you for supporting Vaughan PTA. So far, we have raised $10,525! We met one of our campus goals and our students have earned a "Cartoons During Lunch Day."
If you still want to donate to the school, don't fret! Anchor's Away is still open for donations even though we are past the goals deadline for prizes. Your donations will go towards helping the PTA provide amazing enriching events and supplies to our Vaughan Community!
Popcorn Club Delivery
The first ever Popcorn Club at Vaughan has so far been an exciting success! The first monthly delivery of a bag of gourmet popcorn will be at the end of October, so keep an eye out for it! Please remind your Vaughan Vikings to wait to enjoy their popcorn after school is out on the day of delivery, and not in their classroom or on campus.
PTA Membership Drive Winners
THANK YOU to all who joined PTA for our last membership drive! We had 2 contests:
- Classroom with the highest percentage of PTA participation will win a $50 Book Fair gift card. That winner is 5th grade teacher, Ms. Fine!
The grade level with the highest percentage of PTA participation will receive an extra recess. Congratulations 2nd grade!
Thank you to everyone who has joined PTA this year. You can still join PTA at www.VaughanPTA.org. Our campus goal is 365 and we are about 45 members away!
Annual Rudolph Run: Sign Up by November 1
Vaughan Elementary is gearing up for the annual City of Allen Rudolph Run. You can register now online through November 1st.
With registration for this event, you get a cool t-shirt. Be sure to register under Vaughan Elementary School, so that our school gets credit for your entry.
Birthday Book Club
The Birthday Book Club is promoted by the Vaughan Library to honor students during his/her birthday month. With a $20 donation to the library, a book is purchased that becomes part of the permanent library collection. The book will include a bookplate featuring the student's name, picture, and current school year inside the front cover. By participating in the Birthday Book Club program, you are helping our library grow and honoring your child at the same time!
To join the Birthday Book Club, please pay $20 on School Pay and complete this form or complete the form and send a check (payable to Vaughan) or cash to the Library.
Does your student have a summer birthday? Consider honoring your child on their "half-birthday!"
Student members of the Birthday Book Club will have the following opportunities
- Choose a book that will be a permanent part of the Vaughan Library collection.
- Have a picture made in the library for the bookplate that will also feature student name and current school year.
- Appear on morning announcements to share the book that has been chosen.
- Have an extended lending time with the BBC book as a bonus on top of total allowable checkouts.

Vaughan Science Fair
Vaughan students have begun their planning for Science Fair. We had close to 80 projects submitted as of last Friday!
Judging will be held on January 9, 2020 and we need judges!!! Please contact Susan Polansky if you would be interested in helping judge projects on January 9th. Snacks, drinks and lunch will be provided.

Don't feel like scanning? PTA will do it for you! You can drop your labels and receipts in one of our collection bins. Receipts must be scanned within 2 weeks of purchase.
