A Note from Mrs. Wagner
I hope your break was filled with family and relaxation. We're excited to get the second semester started and to welcome the students back to school.
We will begin our semester with a review of our behavior matrix (linked at the bottom of this newsletter). Feel free to review this with your children through the next few weeks.
Arrival & Dismissal Updates:
- Please remember that we can not provide supervision prior to 8:20 and therefore we ask that you please wait to drop your children off until 8:20 or later.
- Please remember we do not allow dogs on campus. Please refrain from bringing your dog with you for arrival and dismissal unless they remain in your vehicle
- Please hang your car tag from your visor or review mirror - this helps speed up our car line. The car tags are easily cut to create a "hook" or you can use a binder clip, baby hanger, etc. to hang it from your visor/review mirror.
- Please leave the car tag hanging in until your child loads into the vehicle. We reference the names on the tag multiple times to help line up the students by the correct number for loading.
Attendance Matters
Please be on the look out for attendance letters to come in your child's Grade Card Enovelope this quarter. Any student with less than 95% attendance will receive a letter noting their attendance percentage and tardies for 2nd quarter.
Regular attendance in class is an important factor for a student's success in school. An integral part of the learning experience is the interaction between students and teachers. One way we look at attendance is calculated through Average Daily Attendance (ADA) which is used to determine a student's individual attendance percentage. This is how the district receives money from the state. Another way we calculate student attendance is the 90-90 Attendance Goal: we want 90% of the students in attendance 90% of the time. If students fall below 90% attendance this classifies as chronically absent.
Attendance Updates
- Average Daily Attendance percentage: 96.09%
- Current 90/90 Attendance: 95.04%
Tardies Matter Too!
- This is an area of true concern. We only had one class have a tardy free month so far this year.
- Remember that our learning begins with the tardy bell (8:50) and when a student is late they are missing important learning.
- If your child is arriving after 8:50 you'll need to walk into the foyer and sign them in.

Volunteering at Sequiota!
We appreciate our volunteers at Sequiota very much! All volunteers who volunteer during school hours (including PTA) must fill out a volunteer application every year but only need one background check per 4 years.
If you would like to volunteer in the school, attend your child's field trips or need to fill out your annual application, please go use the link above to complete this step. It takes 4-7 business to clear. Please check your email often during this time as there is a second email where you must initiate the background check, an important step that is easy to miss.
Volunteers when you come to Sequiota to volunteer, there is a clipboard next to the Hall Pass check-in kiosk if you could please sign in and out on the clipboard after you check in with Hall Pass, Mr. Sharkey would appreciate it, he logs in all of our volunteer's hours. If you log your own hours on sps.org, you do not need to sign the clipboard.
If you have any questions please contact Mr. Sharkey, our volunteer coordinator at ssharkey@spsmail.org
